Ready or not.... baggage and all.....

We have all heard the rumors but is there any actual facts behind any of it?
‘I should have left’: Urban Meyer addresses viral video showing him at Ohio bar - YouTube

"The school’s investigation — led by Mary Jo White, a former U.S. attorney and former chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission — also concluded that while Meyer didn’t cover up wrongdoing by his assistant, he didn’t act forcefully enough in the face of repeated signs of misconduct by the former receivers coach, which included a 2014 incident in which he took high school coaches to a strip club in Miami while on a recruiting trip representing the school.

Ohio State suspends Urban Meyer for three games over handling of domestic abuse claims - The Washington Post

"Meyer, reading from a written statement during a news conference late Wednesday, acknowledged his loyalty to former Ohio State coach Earl Bruce — Meyer’s mentor and Zach Smith’s grandfather — likely played a role in how he dealt with Smith, who was also accused by his ex-wife of assaulting her in 2009 and arrested on a charge of driving under the influence in 2013. Meyer fired Zach Smith last month, after Smith’s ex-wife obtained a protective order against him, bringing the previous abuse allegations to light.

“I followed my heart and not my head,” Meyer said. “At each juncture, I gave Zach Smith the benefit of the doubt. . . . I should have demanded more from him and recognized red flags. . . . I should have done more, and I am sorry for that.”

I would not go quite so far, but I understand what you're saying because I think Urb is pretty smarmy, or as my daughter would say, sketch.

The odds on him staying longer than five years would be extremely low, but maybe that wouldn't be horrible if he brings in the right assistants and puts together a blueprint for winning again. In hearing him talk today during the second half, he seems to understand Nebraska pretty well, at least on a surface level.

A few years ago, there would have been zero chance of getting him. But his reputation has taken a big slide, and putting Nebraska back on track would put a much better face on his legacy. A game like today on national television where Nebraska looks horrible in all phases certainly plays into such a scenario.

Nebraska probably winds up in that "Bottom 10" poll now. Maybe it's deserved.
I was initially very opposed to Urban, but the more I think, we need each other…to rehab each other. If he leaves soon, that is ok as long as he sets us back on a winning trajectory.

Should we compare players with issues under Meyer vs Tom Osborne…Because there isn’t a huge difference.
If some need a history refresher about what the sports media was saying about NU and TO back when we were winning here it is. Is it a hit piece? Sure. It's what they do. They like to write about anything negative they hear about when it involves successful coaches, players, managers, administrators, etc. Does Meyer need a public image rehabilitation scenario? Yes. Does a HC job like NU give him that opportunity? Also yes.

As we discovered with Frost, there's no such thing as 'A Sure Thing' coaching hire. And I'm not saying it HAS to be Urby. What I am saying is that we need to fully explore that option. If Trev leaves those discussions with reservations, I'll accept that. But we'd be fools not to explore it if that possibility is out there.

Exactly my point…No man is a Saint. He caught hell allowing LP to play in the Orange Bowl.

Yes, but there is a huge difference between TO & UM. Ah, never mind. The flippin' win at any cost mentality is a huge problem today. I don't subscribe to that philosophy. Can't stomach that sleezeball and it will be the end of the line for me if Urbie is head coach
Sorry that the majority of the board doesn't see this as a problem.

Well, I liked Baseball better with steroids, and Nebraska was better with a few bad boys sprinkled in. I think the opposite of you…America use to be, wink wink, “win at all costs” Now we try to be the moral authority over EVERYTHING. We get it, you won’t have Urban over for dinner…Neither would I…Unless my, wife, daughters, and maybe even the female dog are gone out of town.

All joking aside…I get why you can’t stand him. I honestly do.

As I mentioned last weekend, fans who believe Nebraska should steer clear because we've always operated as a pillar of virtue haven't been paying attenion or have chosen to ignore stuff over the years.

There has always been a willingness to ignore things when it was "our" winning program that was under scrutiny. Every fan base does it but Nebraska fans can virtue signal with the best of them.

What does this "win at any cost mentality" mean?

We've seen outlaw programs throughout the history of CFB. One of those cheaters (you know, those 'win at all costs' schools) has been the Sooners. Has Urban ever run a program accused of cheating? Not that I'm aware of. Back in the days when paying kids was illegal, was Urban ever accused of doing it? Not that I'm aware of. Has Urban had players who got into trouble? Yes. Did Tom Osborne have players who got into trouble? Yes. Did Scott Frost have players who got into trouble? Yes.

When our players have gotten into trouble in the past, I've heard fans say they were all about second chances. But when a coach is caught on an embarrassing cellphone video on a night at a bar where he likely had too much to drink, THAT'S over the line? That's reason enough for a football program working on a--get this---SIX season losing streak to automatically say NO WAY to one of the winningest CFB coaches of All Time? I'm flabbergasted. What am I missing here?

One of the criticisms I've heard leveled at Urban is that he leaves programs in worse shape than he found them. Really? I could've sworn Ohio State is still one of the top programs in the nation--with one of Urban's hand-picked former assistants as their head coach.

The unfortunate truth is that if the information age was where it is now, the mid 90s Huskers would have been destroyed and TO would have been forced to resign. All this hand wringing is pathetic when you consider the criminal elements of the best Husker teams in the mid 90s.

I don't like Urban Meyer, he's a scumbag. But I love Nebraska football, and if he can elevate this program out of the twenty year dump we've all been living in, I'm all in.

Not my first choice, but he's certainly my choice over the 6-3 typical score coach from ISU that everyone seems to think is so great.

It would be hard to sell Urban to the fan base, especially the crowd convinced we do things differently at Nebraska.

Would Trev really hire Urban given all his baggage? Can he afford to given the character qualities he has said he's looking for in the next head coach?

Urban is definitely a winner. Do we sell our souls to win some football games?
At this point having had 5 straight losing seasons and most likely a 6th this year, yes selling your soul to win some games is well worth it. Simply put I am and I'm sure you are along with every Husker fan, sick of losing. He is the only coach out there right now that can turn this ship in less than 2 years. What he's done at Utah,Florida, and Ohio State proves he can fix Nebraska.

You've piqued my interest Ohio. If Campbell is not your cup of tea and Urb is not your first choice...who is?
