Ready or not.... baggage and all.....

Urbie is about as unlikable a guy as there is out there, plus I'm not sure he had to do a total rebuild at Florida or OSU, and that's what he'd have to do here, so it remains to be seen if he's the guy who can do it. I suppose I could stomach him until his next health crises causes him to move along, but he better win, and win BIG, if he comes.

What? We're too good for urban Meyer?
I hope we get him. He'll bring in talent. He left OSU in better shape than he found it.

I said this a week ago and I'll say it again today: What great coach HASN'T had bad things said about him? Unfortunately perception isn't always reality. Most casual fans who remember Tom Osborne would probably tell you he was a 'Win at All Costs" kind-of-coach.

Does Urban Meyer have some baggage? Yeah, but that means he has MORE REASONS than Nebraska has to rehabilitate his image. If Urban has shown as interest in Nebraska, we'd be IDIOTS if we didn't at least seriously consider it. Win/loss records like Osborne, Devaney, Saban --- and yes, Urban Meyer --- don't happen by accident.

As I mentioned last weekend, fans who believe Nebraska should steer clear because we've always operated as a pillar of virtue haven't been paying attenion or have chosen to ignore stuff over the years.
We have all heard the rumors but is there any actual facts behind any of it?

I know NU isn't a pillar of virtue. But the cover-up of his assistant coach's treatment of his wife and the Honkey Feces in the bar. Yeah, I'll be real proud to have him as our coach.
You think Scott Frost was a pillar of virtue? Or Bo and Carl Pelini?

Given our current situation, I frankly find it heartwarming to know that a coach of Urban Meyer's stature is even interested in the Nebraska job.

You're right Kansas. Neither Florida nor Ohio State had the disaster he would be stepping into at Nebraska. Fickell was 6-7 the year before he took over the Buckeyes and Zook at Florida was 23-14 the three previous seasons. I'm beginning to think this is a hopeless cause.

No but there are limits to what I can stomach. Urbie makes my flesh crawl and not in a good way.

I am old enough to remember a heavy drinking Irishman named Bob who had a pretty sleazy reputation about Lincoln town. Of course the sports writers back then were protective of his personal flaws. Today, I doubt he'd get away with it. The University can put a moral turpitude clause in Meyer's contract. But again, we need someone here who is going to stay for at least 5 to 7 years and put the program on the right trajectory again.

How does a coach talk to players about anything when one has the morals of a pig?
You'll have to get a press pass and ask Urb when he takes over the reins in Lincoln. He has been successful everywhere he has coached in college for 20 years. If players only respond to choirboys Mike Riley would still be coaching Nebraska. Hip Hip Hooray!!

Wow! We’ve been saying for years Just.Win.Games. I agree he’s one of a few that are as close to a sure thing as you can get.

Bring him on and trust me if we’re winning we’ll ignore the BS just like we did with Devaney.

Delaney, and Osburn, and Forsten.

I find that interesting given how our once proud program has fallen. There are limits to what I can stomach of THIS. We deserve a hell of a lot better than what we've been getting.

I'd rather 'gamble' on one of the winningest CFB coaches of all time being virtuous enough for some of our fans versus gambling on a new coach stepping into the B1G and turning the program around. IMHO, we're on the brink. If we fail again, the fans support will start fading and we'll become just another (once upon a time they were a big deal program) like Minnesota.

We'll be known as "win at all costs" but we'll be winning. Hopefully. Right now we need about as sure-fire a coach as possible, and he may be the only one. Everyone else feels like " get us back to mediocraty".

It strikes me as selling your soul to the devil; but, that's just my opinion.

I would not go quite so far, but I understand what you're saying because I think Urb is pretty smarmy, or as my daughter would say, sketch.

The odds on him staying longer than five years would be extremely low, but maybe that wouldn't be horrible if he brings in the right assistants and puts together a blueprint for winning again. In hearing him talk today during the second half, he seems to understand Nebraska pretty well, at least on a surface level.

A few years ago, there would have been zero chance of getting him. But his reputation has taken a big slide, and putting Nebraska back on track would put a much better face on his legacy. A game like today on national television where Nebraska looks horrible in all phases certainly plays into such a scenario.

Nebraska probably winds up in that "Bottom 10" poll now. Maybe it's deserved.
