Ready or not.... baggage and all.....

Im with you Suh, no experimentals, just good results.
I know he's a scumbag like OhioHusker said but if we don't hire him then we need to hire someone like him who will win right away and that means by year 2. We can no longer take on a coach like Campbell, etc. We simply as a program cannot afford to do that at this point. If we do we not only lose the sellout streak but we lose a part of our identity.

My take is Trev Alberts probably spoke to Urban Meyer and got an honest take on where the program is. And there is nothing wrong with that. I don't think Meyer comes and if he does, he'll leave after 3 years to finish his career at ND when Freeman gets fired.

He will come and yes be a short term solution and whether he leaves in 3 years or 10 years is irrelevant. We need to win and win now. If he can do that then the next HC will inherit a winning program and just needs to continue what he started.

Where is the guarantee that he can turn us around in 2 years? He did not do that at Utah. He did not do that at Florida. He did not do that at Ohio State. He sure as hell didnt do that at Jacksonville. Why are you so sure he can do it here? Just because he has won games doesnt mean he can turn a program around in 2 years. There are no guarantees with any coach. Just because you say its so doesnt mean it is.

You need to do some research then. He spent 2 years at Utah. 2003 they went 10-2, 2004 13-0, Florida 1st year 9-3 2nd year 13-1 and won National title that year. He took a then 6-6 Ohio state team the year before and went 12-0 in a year they were on probation. Then 12-2 his 2nd year and 14-1 in his 3rd year while winning the national title. So tell me again how he won't have us turned around in 2 years?

You just described a coach who we all feel was the greatest ever. The difference is he didn't lie and has way better character than anyone but he even said folks called him a win at all costs coach too.

I don't think Osborne has a way better character than anyone. I think he's a decent guy who decided he wanted a championship or two before he retired and compromised his principles to get and keep the players he needed to make that happen.

But that's a whole different level than what Urban has done and the type of person he is. If we bring him aboard, we are selling out on everything the program is supposed to be about simply in order to win some games.

I want to win too...but do we even care anymore about winning the right way? The earlier post comparing Nebraska fans to the desperate fat girl at the frat party seems sadly appropriate. I think losing may be making us forget what's really important.

When we went 42 years in a row never having a losing record then you have 8 in the last 18 years on your way to 9 with 5 straight and probably 6 in a row with this year we can no longer afford to win the right way currently. We need to win and have several years of winning then when that's established win the right way. Cause if we don't start winning Husker football will never recover.

For probably the first time ever I find myself agreeing with everything you are posting on this matter. I am really hoping Urban is NOT our next coach.

I guess Trev has to ask himself with Urban or whoever he hires if the new coach is going to submit to his authority ("no one person is bigger than the program"). Frost came in with a messiah complex and everyone was convinced he was the savior that is why he got away with what he did. I have to think Trev is smart enough to not put the university in that position again.

Winning is important, the most important thing in college ball. Read this link
Texas spent $280K on visit by Manning, 8 others This is what we are up against like it or not. Adapt or perish.

Then you are content with losing.

How far we've fallen.

"Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory."

Those words are carved into the stadium for a reason.

I reject your premise that winning and being ethical are mutually exclusive. I think we can hire a good coach who can and will win the right way.

Bull. Urban is NOT that only coach who can come here and win.
You are correct if you want to wait another 5 years. By that time it's too late for husker football to ever be what it once was.

You can't name one coach other than Meyer who can ha e us contending for conference and national titles within 3 years. He'll have us winning within 2 years. No other coach outside of Saban,Smart,Swinney can do that and they aren't leaving their spots.

Whether you College Boys want to Admit it or not…A leader puts his people in spots to succeed and allows them to put people in spots to also succeed. Leadership is a Mofo, lots of people get it wrong because they won’t make a decision based on trying to keep everyone happy.

Eff that! You do what you know is Best based off your experience and knowledge.

I think that's crazy Suh. We have a bad team. This is one of the worst teams in college football right now.

Neither Knute Rockne nor Bear Bryant nor anyone on your list could have us winning conference and national titles in a year or two. Even with the transfer portal, this is a multi year rebuild.

People who get desperate do all kinds of stupid things they would never do otherwise. Hiring Urban Meyer probably qualifies.
