Rumor: Possible expansion announcement this week.

Might as well just go for broke and get to 24 teams. Add Oregon, Washington, Utah, Stanford, Florida St, Clemson, North Carolina and finally force Notre Dame. Then start breaking them down into 6 team pods.

Then change the name of the conference. I just can't think of that as the Big10 anymore.

They could look like this,

USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Utah & Stanford
Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern & Illinois
Michigan, Michigan St, Purdue, Indiana, Ohio St & Notre Dame
Penn St, Rutgers, Maryland, North Carolina, Clemson & Florida St

The Big Ten is a brand, not a number. It hasn't had ten members for decades.

Obviously, but I probably didn't express myself clearly. With all those left coast teams it's just not the same brand with the same traditions. Start over.

Thamel noted that the key linchpin is Oregon, as the Ducks are now expected to remain in the Pac-12 barring an 11th hour change. Thamel says that if Oregon stays, it could hold the league together, as Arizona has not yet finalized its deal with the Big 12 to leave the league.

Or it could just be Oreogon trying to negotiate a bigger piece of whatever portion of the Big 10 pie it would get.

Oregon is not in a position to negotiate with the B1G. The conrference's new TV deal is set for the next seven years. Even at a reduced revenue stream over the course of the contract, member schools would be LOSING annual income in order to take Oregon or anybody else.

Unless the new Natty playoff format guarantees a hefty increase in the conference's TV take, I don't see it happening. Money is the deciding factor.

There are always negotiations. If the Big 10 truly wants those schools they'll come up with some revenue incentive to make that happen. The TV deal is only part of the equation. Oregon is already talking this morning about staying which tells me the revenue they would be getting in the Pac is similar to what the Big 10 has or could offer.
Long term, I don't see the Pac-12 being in existence unless they can significantly increase the revenue each school gets each year.

Sounding more and more like we'll hear about Oregon and Washington joining the Big 10 today.
