Matt Rhule said a Nebraska fan yelled at his 13-year-old ...

Not gonna lie the conspiracy theorist in me did have the thought cross my mind that this would be a great way to deflect heat and gain sympathy from a fanbase that is on the verge of turning into an angry mob.
This 'theory' requires one to believe that the Matt Rhule we've gotten to know over the past four years would: 1) make up a story; 2) using his 13 year old daughter; in order to 3) to gain some sympathy with our fanbase??!?

I'm through talking about this.

Not accusing him of making this up but desperate people do desperate things. Sometimes it is not even premeditated they panic in the moment as their mind is scrambling for an emergency exit and then once it comes out of their mouth they have to keep selling it (digging their hole deeper) or admit they lied. Let's hope Rhule & Co can beat Illinois so we can all step back from the ledge LOL.

But, what? Imply he's desperate? Imply he panicked and lied...by making up a story about his 13 year old daughter?

Rhule's got a 70 million dollar golden parachute, he and his family are covered if you all want to give it to him early and start over again. Unfortunately, our first choice, Matt Campbell, has already been taken and is doing gangbusters at Penn State.

I read your entire post and came away thinking that is exactly what you were implying.

I'm disappointed you 'went there,' but everybody is entitled to their opinion. Peace.
I'm disappointed in the diversionary tactics used by Coach Matt to get the fanbase speaking of things other than his abysmal 22-20 overall record (including 12-20 in conference) and repeated 4th Q collapses at Nebraska. IMVHO it was Matt Rhule that "went there." There was absolutely no reason to bring up the abhorrent behavior of one single fan in a press conference unless he was willing to elaborate when asked about it by the press and/or wants an investigation done by the university to find this individual and make sure he never steps foot inside the stadium again. To dismiss his actions (which I consider a threat) with "I don't want to talk about it anymore" seemed rather peculiar to me.

Which Matt Rhule are you talking about? The affable guy we had the first two seasons that loved all things Nebraska awaiting the expected Year 3 Jump? The Year 3 Guy who couldn't get enough of himself appearing on every national podcast every day, including his own, before the November Collapse? The Backwards Ball Cap Guy? The guy who wanted to show Husker Nation he meant business with his preparation for the bowl game against Utah before getting blown out 44-22. Or are we referring to Year 4 Matt, the Sullen Press Conference Guy giving curt responses to many questions, including the infamous "At the end of the day, I don't call the defense" excuse. Throwing the best DC we have had in Lincoln in over 10 years under the bus was the last straw.

Finally, we have Led Zeppelin Matt. The guy who decided to "Ramble On" for 50 minutes this week talking about any and everything except his failures as a head coach.

The only thing we have gotten to know about Coach Matt in his 4 seasons here is that of a self serving chameleon.

Unfortunately he is giving off desperate vibes and seems to have problems coming up with solutions which only helps fan the flames of these conspiracy theories. Trust me I want Coach Rhule to be the one to get us back on track as much as anyone, I don't have any grudge against him but my confidence in him is waning.

OK, now I'm fighting with you. Sacrilege to refer to anything or anyone as Led Zeppelin (fill in the blank). They are the masters, besides the Beatles that is!

"Before I start this press conference I want to bring something up. After the game, someone came up to my 13 year old daughter and cursed her out with the F-bomb. This is reprehensible and we are actively trying to identify this person and apply consequences. His actions don't represent the behavior of true Nebraska fans who are justifiably disappointed in tonight's results. In my profession I accept certain amount of vitriol directed at me. My family is off limits. That's all I'm going to say about that."
The above may have been a better way to address it.

That would have been absolutely perfect had it been handled in that manner.

But, I'm not the parent of the child who had to listen to her father being cursed at by a fan. Coaches are, at the end of the day (like my coach speak? LOL), human after all. Seriously, I suspect I would have been ballistic had it been my child being subjected to that by a fan.

Real problem here was the damn "fan" who dropped the f-bomb in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I'm a real fan of that particular word but generally that is only used inside our house. Out in public I try to act like I'm a civilized person and all.:tongue0015:

Not gonna lie the conspiracy theorist in me did have the thought cross my mind that this would be a great way to deflect heat and gain sympathy from a fanbase that is on the verge of turning into an angry mob. We said it on the board that Washington was going to be perhaps the most pivotal point in the season and the absolute worst thing that could have happened did as Nebraska followed the same exact script for the 3rd game in a row and ended up losing a game they appeared to be in control of.

We have witnessed firsthand on this board that patience is waning and tempers are flaring up so I don't doubt it is plausible that someone may have accosted his daughter which is inexcusable (that person should be banned from all UNL activities). I am sure his family has security around them so if this continues to get called into question it would help squash the rumors if a witness did step forward. As Hunchy pointed out there are examples of people who have cried "wolf" and played the victim card. I am giving Rhule the benefit of the doubt that he would not stoop to that level.

On a related note as I go to the ESPN CFB page and look at the headline in the right column the one at the very top is this one:

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...nebraska-rhule-urges-calm-fan-cursed-daughter

A tempered post. I believe I understand your point(s).

I can understand how a Husker might feel this way...

Part of the fun is caring. It is really hard to care when you kicked in the balls as a fan everytime we play a team with a pulse. I'll keep watching but I will be surprised if we win more than 1 more game.

Yeah. That last part.

I agree.

I as well. The only game I think we have a chance at is Rutgers and that is a "chance". We could easily go 5-7. We could win at least a couple of these games. Time will tell. I'm not counting the team out at this point, we just really seem to be on a very bad downward trajectory..

I watch all the Illinois games, I think we can take them if we play smart and limit the turnovers. They are pretty average at best.
