Wasn't Carl Pelini a HS coach when Bo hired him?The last HS coaches I know of that got hired for big time football turned out really well. Arkansas hired a HS coach to be there OC/WR coach. Gus Malzahn's offense led Auburn to a MNC just a few years later. My Philadelphia Eagles hired a HS coach to be an offense quality control coach. Less than 8 years later Doug Peterson was hoisting the Lombardi trophy as the Eagles HC.

His name eludes me, but Notre Dame once hired a HS coach as their HC. That did not pan out.
When his brother Bo came calling, Carl made the hard choice to step away from being a role model and mentor to young, impressionable high school kids to move up to the college ranks.Wasn't Carl Pelini a HS coach when Bo hired him?

I would bet the farm you're right about that one, redfred.BTW I really don't expect to hear him say.........The situation was worse than we thought.
I'm very much in this line of thinking, but I also understand the risk of alienating a good coach because of things that are out of his/her control dictating his/her salary. For example, if plays are called which puts a position group at a disadvantage, or trying to recruit in an area that isn't NU friendly, and/or recruiting to a position group that isn't highlighted in the schemes run (eg think of Ron Brown recruiting wrs for Coach Osborne). I'm a believer in performance pay.......as long one can evaluate past the superficial.I'm very interested in how much money they are going to make! Spending a ton of money on guys with lite resumes would not be wise in my book. However, I would not mind them making a ton of money with an incentives package. Things like being a great recruiter, are your guys performing well, etc...
