From what little I could gather there is something "outside football" going on....Honestly you can't blame or find fault with him personally...I know for a fact the entire team likes the guy and there is NO MORE SUPPORTIVE BUNCH of staff and players than we have right now.
I think alot has to do with him not being where he thought he would be by now, things aren't coming to him as quickly as he thought and we hoped....his talent really is off the charts and I know he hasn't exactly had the chance to show it but....if he can with help, get his head in the right place he really has a chance to be special. Now no matter where that is and for the record I sincerely hope it's in Lincoln, you gotta feel for the guy a little bit .....even a hardcore guy like me can see something is just off center for him.
I know this much....if he really wants to play pro ball someday there is no better spot for him right now..... especially when we are so in need of a deep threat guy who can take the top off opposing secondaries like he could.
Whatever the deal is we hope he gets it figured out and figured out quickly.

I'm watching Northwestern Purdue, the Boilers have some good receivers and they are covered by Northwestern corners solid. Purdue has 8 rushes for - 10 yards. Northwestern is really good

Doc, here is the thing I don't understand and maybe you could provide some insight...

How freaking hard is it to tell Manning run a fade route and we'll get the ball to you? Or, run a post corner route. Like I get not being able to tell him every time what he's supposed to do, but surely in certain situations we could get him in there? Like, I seriously do not see what is so difficult about this. This is a free year of eligibility, why not use it? Just perplexes me.

It’s a little harder to do that in a no Huddle fast tempo O, to many reads at the LOS

Is it though? We change personnel and substitute players all the time. You're telling me a coach or another player can't be like, "Yo, Omie...do this." a handful of times a game?

I wish the kid well, hope he gets to show his talent on the field and pray for his wellness. That said, I'm not counting on any one player coming in and making a huge difference this year.

I wish, i have been thinking get a package of like 10 plays for him in something like ace and turn him loose ,

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was getting at. Like, he's supposedly this dynamic playmaker and he's kept on the bench because he doesn't know everything? Just seems like a waste.

And don't wait for a specific "look" or "circumstance" because it might never come. Like seriously, just tell him, "Run this route and go up and get the ball." I dunno, maybe there are things I am not considering.

Was Omar Manning dressed to play, or was he in street clothes when he tweeted this? Because context makes all the difference.
Makes no difference to me. Feeling the need to grab your phone and express your thoughts to all your followers on social media while your teammates are battling for their first victory of the season on the field of play is well...Bizarro World to me. Whether in uniform or not, how about encouraging your teammates on the field during the game. JMO. No right or wrong...and I suspect you disagree, which is fine. But there's a reason Mr Uber-Talent hasn't seen the field yet, and I have heard everything from depression to struggling with the playbook. Maybe his priorities are just a bit askew.

I get what you're saying, but if he's in street clothes then I am not seeing the issue. Now if he's dressed like he's going to play and he's tweeting in-between series, then I think you'd have case.

Potential mental illness/depression is not a problem with the team. But the team can provide support and tools to help somebody through it.

Are you sure? You're saying that the culture on the team doesn't breed some of these issues, or potentially bring them to the surface?

And that's a strong accusation that YOU need to prove.
I am sure that team culture is not what was the biggest issue between the ears of JD or Maurice. One or two players a year that are struggling emotionally does not a sick culture make.

Stats show 1 in 20 people struggle with depression every year here, so you have over a hundred guys, you may have as many as ten on any given team.

Maybe its something in the water ;)

TO brought sports psychology into the mix to address a perceived lack of team dynamics. He wasn't unsuccessful looking at the macro dynamics versus the micro dynamics. Sure there is always going to be 3% of inherent mental illness in a population, but in this atmosphere it can skyrocket to double digits, which is why its important to have support for intensive mental health within the facility. It's probably not a bad idea if all student athletes of every sport get involuntary time with counselors as a condition of being on scholarship. Nebraska has a macro problem with identity that is not limited to the players. It also involves the faculty, fans, and community.
