Mark Whipple.

Look I'm not trying to ruin any of the Pass happy people's day but I'm telling you UNLESS Whipple changed his whole offensive scheme this type of Throw the ball on almost every down ( can't quote his percentage of pass to run play calls but it's heavily pass favored ) this kind of offense in this conference just ain't gonna get it done. It's been tried and tried and in the Big 10 you just can not put the ball in the air that often period. You have GOT TO BE ABLE TO RUN THE FOOTBALL PERIOD !
I have no idea if Frost is deliberately trying to piss off the fans or what he's doing. He has got to be out of his freaking mind.
I honestly have shut off my phone cause so many guys who played at Nebraska are just mad as hornets and feel betrayed.
I get it I really do but I am just one voice and not a very good voice at that. I let my emotions get in the way of my mouth and speak from my gut or heart or soul or whatever the hell you wanna call it but nobody is gonna give 2 hoots in hell what I think or want.
We all know this is just not who Nebraska is and this kinda crap has already driven a wedge in the fan base between those who say we need to be a RUN heavy BALL CONTROL team vs those who say no we need to be a FLASHY THROW IT ALL OVER TEAM.....how is that gonna play out if we get early cold weather where the ball is hard as granite and the turf is like a frozen plastic rug....and the wind (which never stops blowing on those kinds of days) comes howling in from the Northwest and it hurts to breathe.
That being what it is unless we're going to have all indoor stadiums in the Big 10 ( NOT ) Nebraska of old is dead and gone and Scott Frost of all freaking people was the one who threw the final shovel of dirt on us.
Thanks For Nothing you Arrogant jumped up turd !

Please remember my opinions are my own.....and I speak from the deep rooted Husker Red in me. I might be wrong and I might be right but at least I am HONEST AND DONE DOING FAVORS FOR ANYBODY PERIOD.

Doc, I get where you're coming from as an ex player who is entirely invested in there program but Whipple was told by the HC to move from a run heavy offense to a pass happy offense. Whipple did not make this decision alone therefore lets hope HCSF decides to go at the very minimum balanced. I just don't think in modern football you can survive with three yards and a cloud of dust.

Who specifically did the former players want - the guy at Army? To make the offense more run heavy is understandable. I am more worried about fit with the rest of the staff and ability to get whatever the offense is executed properly. That has been lacking under Frost - some of that was flat getting beat at the LOS - but play calling was also an issue. At least this is someone that has seen really good defense like Clemson recently and knows what it takes to move the ball and score. If this was not a one and done situation for Frost.......a run heavy OC might make sense......but we have to win games in 2022 (by scoring more points).

I remember the first time I heard that the only way to win titles was with a pass first offense. 1989, Andre Ware at Houston.

Then again in the mid 90s with Steve Spurrier and his fun-n-gun.

Meanwhile, we won 3 titles in 5 years and should have won a 4th by pounding the crap out of our opponent with a devastating run game. People act like times have changed but they haven't, they just see flashy things and think they need the same thing.

Que highlights of MNF game Patriots vs Bills where the Sweaty only called 3 passing plays........ Patriots' three passing attempts are NFL's lowest since 1974 Bills-Jets debacle

What does it mean, "balanced" ?

I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say Pitt passed on almost every down. According to what I found, they averaged 77 plays per game, 40 of which were passes, 37 runs. So, they passed 52% of the time and ran the ball 48% of the time. That seems rather balanced to me. The fact that Pitt happened to have a Heisman candidate who threw for a ton of yards in his 40 attempts per game shouldn't cloud our thinking. Pitt/Whipple DID mix up.

Heard the same thing. Balanced offense, whatever that is.

Is that what balanced means? Run/pass % in a game? 50-50?

What if you don't complete a pass, or run for negative yards, yet run an equal number of plays each, is that balanced?

Or does balanced mean proficiency in both pass and run?

In my opinion balanced means you have the ability to adjust to the defense depending on what they are presenting.

Every time I've heard a coach talk about having a "balanced" attack, he was talking pass/run plays, not the results of those plays.

What you define as balanced I'd refer to as flexibility through pre-planning. Every contest goes awry until you adjust your plan. You lay the groundwork before game 1. There is little room in this field for being reactive 'next week'. Throw everything at them from the beginning, and see what sticks. That is what you have game 1. Build steadily until the season over. You may not use wrinkles this year, but it may be foundation to go another similar direction come crunch time.

Alabama is the gold standard in CFB and they threw the ball about the same percentage as Pitt this year.

At the end of the day, I don’t care how we win, I just want to win

2021 Football Cumulative Statistics - University of Alabama Athletics

Behind Whipple’s play calling and Pickett’s development as a quarterback, Pitt’s offense became the best in the ACC at scoring, as it averaged 43 points per game in 2021. Whipple’s offense has steadily improved each year he’s been at Pitt. In 2019, his first season, the Panthers averaged just 21.3 points—second to last in the ACC. But the following year, in 2020, Whipple had the Panthers averaging 29 points. The 2021 campaign was a breakout season for both Pickett and his offensive coordinator.
