Guaranteed, at least 4 other B1G teams follow suit if we do it.
Other than Iowa
Who else do you think will try and play this season?

Harbaugh wants in but I’ve spent a bunch of time in Ann Arbor and it’s very liberal

zero chance
Rutgers
Maryland
Minnesota
Northwestern

We aren't any more respected because we are a member of the Big10. No potential student started considering UNL because of our conference affiliation that wouldn't have anyway.

My point is that academics, not athletics, should be driving this bus. I've been a Husker fan since our first Natty in 1970 but the bottom line is that the focus solely on football is effed up, at least IMO. If sports were completely pulled, UNL would still exist. And to be honest, the Lincoln Police Department would prefer it. I used to work in Records and all the cops cheered when football season was over. Also bitched about athletes who thought they could do whatever they wanted in downtown Lincoln because they wore the Red "N" on their football helmet.

Iowa immediately.

Ohio st would be shortly behind and Michigan wouldn't let OSU best them on this so they'd be in. MSU would have the in-state precedent to get in but my gut tells me it would be Purdue next.

By the time they graduated and went looking for a job I bet they were glad UNL is part of the Big 10

The prestige alone is worth more than ever playing another football game.

If the Big 10 says we can't play football games if we want to stay in the conference, then we need to shut it down.

I don't agree with what I think you are suggesting.

Then you should be in favor of shutting down classes altogether since we are talking about the spread of a virus, and that only happens when people are around others. Academics or athletics, it doesnt really change the risk factor between the two.

It would not exist as it does today. The football progarm puts several million dollars back into the campus. If not for that they would struggle. They already struggle. Football is probably the most important factor at UNL.

You're 90% correct. Though classes don't have to be completely shut down. The majority can be done on-line. Some classes would have to be definitely,

I can handle them struggling if need be. I'm not liking the overemphasis on football at the moment. IMO, it is detremental. Football is a lot of fun to follow but it's just a sport and not the end all to be all. I'd just like to see a little less emphasis on football at the moment and more on other things.

Yes, I get football puts $$$'s into the Uni's budget and God knows it pumps a lot of money into Lincoln's economy. But this year, it can also put a lot of C-19 into Lincoln's population and into UNL. So crank sports down a couple of notches and let's get a grip on other things that are more important. Every day, I read more and more about new side effects from C-19 that are hitting young, healthy people. I don't want to stir that hornet's nest again but it does need to be factored into the "Do we play or not" equation.

I guess if all nebraska football is about is making money, I dont really have much interest in following it anymore.
Well in lieu of championships we have made some money. If you missed it the players are demanding money these days. The athletic dept at Nebraska for the most part is self supporting so that money is real hard currency. Money talks BS walks!

I'm sorry, but I sincerely doubt that OSU, UM, MSU or any other school in the BIG is waiting for us to lead them to a promised land. Including Iowa.

They'll make, or have made, their own decisions, and are as confident (if not moreso) in their judgment as we may ever be in ours.

We need the BIG. Do they need us? Not nearly to the same degree.

imo, anyway.

I find the argument that players are safer by staying on campus, rather than going home, both puzzling and disturbing.

If I was a student athlete and the season was cancelled, I'd stay on campus to do the "student" part of my student athlete life. There'd be no going home. I'd pursue my education.

Are coaches suggesting there'd be a mass exodus? If so, are they really nuturing a culture of "student" athletes?

With all due respect, Crazy, you are dead-wrong about this one.

Nebraska under Perlman was interested in growing its out-of-state enrollment. But there is no way that UNL would have the student enrollment it has now if not for its move to the B1G. Word is there were a lot of Chicago high school counselors who suddenly put Nebraska on their preferred list of colleges and universities once Nebraska became part of the Big Ten.

Interestingly, Missouri used to heavily-recruit in the Chicago suburbs but when the university moved to the SEC the year after UNL joined the B1G, interest in Mizzou evaporated almost overnight. Ironically, Nebraska was the biggest recipient of Chicago students move away from Missouri.

There are articles floating around that support they are safer because they re under more supervision and medical testing.

I may be naive, but I suspect the biggest threats to players are (a) mingling with the rest of the student body and (b) playing a sweaty, violent game against players from outside of their bubble.

Novel idea. The players can keep their same fall routine, minus the games. Same practice, lifting, training table, and academics....they stay in their bubble and stay “safe”. Problem solved. Nobel prize is mine!

I read a previous article a few weeks ago that theorized that the players would end up socializing more, mixing more with the general student population since they wouldn't have the demands, the structure, and the incentive to be diligent dealing with the Covid-19 risk, if the football season is canceled. If I can find the article, I will post a link.

I have had some time to think about this as I was out working on some antique car projects and then took a walk out among the corn tonight. Every once in a while I grabbed my phone to make sure that things where not getting to combative on here.

I have been a Husker Fan since watching the 97 NC Game. I was not old enough at that time to go to high school. Charlie, my dad (in case you have not been paying any attention.) Started this forum way back when with BHFadministrator and I have been lurking ever since. A couple or 3 years ago I "joined" to play with the Game Chat. I know or have known the principles of this website for years. You may not have known me way back when but I heard all about the goings on here. So I consider myself a Husker fan.

I have lived in Nebraska my whole life. I attended Community College and then got a 4 year Degree in Business Admin and a Minor in Economics (Don't do Economics...My head still spins. I still don't know what half that meant.) I do ham radio and am the past president of a tractor club. I love trains, cars, tractors, Steam Engines, books, history I could go on and on.

I didn't go to UNL. Hindsight being 2020 I might have gone into Meteorology. If I had then I bet UNL would have been my choice. But for me UNL is more than Football. I of course watch and follow. I love baseball. I like that UNL has the Geology Map Store, home to the State Arboretum, Bison Books and more.

Where am I going with this you ask??

Myself, I see UNL as not mainly a form of entertainment, it is OUR higher learning institution in the state. We have other Colleges and Universities but UNL is the top of the list. Sports are just a small part of the goal (at least as originally envisioned by our society) If for some legit reason tomorrow they came out and said nope can't do sports like we do now, I would be disappointed, saddened and maybe frustrated. Would my life end? No.

I am a member of a Ham Radio Club, a Tractor Club, a Historical Train Club and an Astronomy Club. All of them at times I have tried to suggest not scheduling events on a game day. None of them care. In my Tractor Club I would say 50 of the 100 members would not care or notice if UNL football just vanished. Another 25 would be wondering. That leaves like 25 that are really into it. Old Trusty Days in Clay Center is another example. Can you notice Saturday afternoon that there is a game. Sure. There are still tons of people there.

So what I am saying is that we should not think that Nebraskan's are all die hard Husker Fans. Are we fans sure most of us. If UNL said tomorrow that all sports are gone permanently will there be an uproar, sure. Is that going to happen no.

So to bring this around to a conclusion for now..., will we see UNL go rouge as some have suggested? I don't know, but everyone is going to get a say in this. Frost and Moos are just two voices. The Big10 are going to get a first say. We don't know what the agreements are that have been signed. Ronnie Green UNL Chancellor is going to get a say. The University of Nebraska President Ted Carter will to. My guess is that the Regents will as well. Especially if any "disagreements" with the Big 10 come up. These people have bigger fish to fry. Like can we really bring all the students back. What happens if there is an outbreak on our campus? How are we going to pay for all this?

And again you don't just go and resetup a schedule for the Huskers without dealing with the Big10, TV rights, Schedules, Fans in stands, payouts of various kinds and other HUGE issues that will involve boards and lawyers and so forth in a couple days. If they want to do this then time is running out. Hell the Big 10 has not made any official announcement yet.

There I have had my say. Some may not think I am a "fan" but I know that I am a fan of UNL whether sports are involved or not. I think they should toss in the towel and try again for a full season next year. I don't know what they will decide and I bet they don't have all the answers yet either.

That sounds 100% right. It’s the reason so many players end up on the crime blotter during the off-season. I think Trevor Lawrence made similar comments.

The games provide the motivation for all the practicing. Even the most dedicated players would have a hard time continuing to press if there was no outside acknowledgement and recognition of their hard work that is reflected in their individual performances and in their collective efforts in the game outcomes.
