Moos would be the biggest hero in nebraska if he came out and said "we are playing and nobody can tell us we can't", then filled the schedule with other teams that want to play.

We have a heck of a lot more to lose than just 1 years worth of big10 network money if they fall in line. The majority of this state doesn't agree with the decision to not play and will lose a lot of faith in the program if we tow the company line. Forget about the sellout streak and donations in the following years.[/QUOT

This may just be the catalyst to jump start our rebirth. I love frosts attitude and moxie of not being a sheep and I can picture moos with him side by side on this.

We are in uncharted waters and lots of leeway will be given to those who draw outside the lines this season.

Kudos to frost and moos for not being sheep

Long term, long term.

That could easily void our B1G contract. Would it really be worth losing more than just 1 year of B1G network money. We cannot be in the B1G when it suits us and not in the B1G when it doesn't suit us. That's not how being in a conference works.

I'm betting money that the B1G has to give permission for NU to play any games at all.

The acc and Notre dame say hello and bullshit

WE picked up 70 or 80 million from the conference, that is not chump change. The sell out streak will not apply to a covid year IM certain. If our paper work says they get to order then thats the way it is.

Seeing frost lobby for a season for his players, not reading a statement, but logically and diplomatically stating his case reminded me of him lobbying for a national title at the end of the 1997 season
Brilliant and well done !

it is very similar

Was notre dame in the acc last year?

no

they were allowed in for a one yeAr deal because of covid

there will be lots of leeway given this year due to the unique circumstances
The original comment was that Nebraska may be bound to follow their conference’s orders. Notre Dame isn’t in a conference. Next.

I guess if all nebraska football is about is making money, I dont really have much interest in following it anymore.

Because of covid
Eligibility and transfer rules are going to be very fluid and changinG
Due to unusual circumstances
Just like allowing notre dame play a single season in the acc
Due to unusual circumstances
And other teams who want to play to play outside their conference
Due to same unusual circumstances

imo, Frost's statement and the Regents' statement were window-dressing. PR. Aimed at big-$$ donors, players and the fanbase in general. An affirmation of commitment to taking on a challenge, but nothing more.

Belonging in the BIG goes vastly beyond FB, or athletics at all. Are athletics important? You bet, but the future of Husker students and aspirants hinge on so many more things that BIG membership offers, most of it fairly divorced from league championships.

If the BIG says going rogue is a deal-breaker, we'd be fools to call their hand. Fools.

Again, imo...

Notre Dame was already schedule to play 6 ACC teams this year. They are an ACC member in every other sport. They replaced the out of conference opponents the ACC teams they weren't playing lost. They are going to be in the ACC in the next couple of years anyway. It's not really an apple to apple comparison.

Playing football for the last 20 years has been about money. Playing football this fall is about money. Don't kid yourself. Money will be why we play or don't play. If the B1G says you play we take money then we have to decide if it is worth the loss of that money or if you can make it up by playing. HuskerVotary hit the nail on the head.

To add to his statement, we joined the B1G not because of sports. Sorry no -- that might have played a part but it was because of the prestige of the Conference in other areas that made UNL and Harvey Perlman leave the Big12 and move to the Big10.

SOC

PS: This decision will go way beyond just Scott Frost and Bill Moos. The Big10 will have a say and the UNL Administration will have a say. They may kick it to the Board of Regents. And Time is ticking.

According to Frost....The players, coaching staff, administration, and board of regents is all on board with playing football this fall. Now that doesnt mean if the B1G says, if you play other schools when we shut down you are out of the conference, that we will go ahead and play. That gives them the out, saying, we wanted to play but the conference wouldnt let us. We did all we could.
I have always thought government should stay out of sports to, as far as changing rules etc. That being said it was nice to see Sasse standing up for the kids, university, and state with his letter. It was simply saying "Nebraska needs this, the Universtiy needs this, and our players need this". Nothing political about his letter. And he was right too.

If our value as a university and as a team are based on affiliation with other schools we have lost our way.

It's been that way for years dude. This isn't a new thing.

The thing that seems to be forgotten by most of these posters is that the University's main function is education, not playing football. And, yes, the B1G perks were academic more than athletic; causing the move from B12 to B1G.

We aren't any more respected because we are a member of the Big10. No potential student started considering UNL because of our conference affiliation that wouldn't have anyway.
