My middle daughter plays volleyball for a school in Florida that competes in the NAIA Southern States Athletic Conference. The member schools are located in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana. They have moved their conference games to the spring and left the member schools with autonomy to play non-con in the fall if they choose. My daughter's team is scheduling some more local non-con games in Florida to minimize travel. Maybe it isn't as workable for the Big D1 conferences due to all the financial agreements, but I have wondered over the last couple of weeks if that would be workable for some of the D1 conferences?
I think this is interesting. So bear with me a second.
You have heard this from me before, but I want to restate it. MLB. They have been playing for what a couple weeks or so. We have had the Marlins, the Phillies and now the Cards lose games because of "outbreaks" I will call them. We are talking something like a few dozen players, coaches and staff.
College Football you have, lets say hundreds, between players, coaches and staff. In the case of UNL you might have Thousands on a regular home game in normal years. I think that would be fair. If you have ever been to a home game and walked downtown you defiantly have that many people "working" and milling about.
Now add the thousands, or in many college campuses, tens of thousands of students. You have hundreds or thousands of staff and professors working.
So scaling up from MLB to a full college with college football, I am concerned that we are not sure that this is going to be "fine" Or in other words if MLB can't get it going without issues then can a college or college football??
So I want to take this and give something I have not seen on these boards. I am a "concerned" person. What would I think would be doable. (I don't speak for the others on here that seem to be "concerned" and so maybe they can speak up.
First, lets have a few weeks to see if College life is going to work out without being a gigantic cluster. Say October 1st we would have a good idea if this is event going to work.
Second, If step one works then proceed into a limited season. Say 6 games.
Third, play local teams. I guess we can look at K-state and Kansas, maybe Wyoming... or SDSU if we pay for the testing??? Iowa too.
Fourth, ditch the fans in the stands. You are just making things to complicated.
Fifth, yeah playoffs and bowl games are going to be pointless.
Oh and test, test, test...
I don't know but I thought some definition of creating a comfort level for some of us "concerned" fans would be helpful.
Now I don't know if we have "time" to do any of this and so I get to the point of cancel the season and prepare for 2021.
There now you have it. Rip it apart.
