I know only 1 person (aunt of a friend) that passed "due to Covid-19" She had a stroke, fell and hit her head. Was in a coma and eventually passed. She tested positive for Covid-19, so they classified it as a covid death. Her brother (my friend's dad) was pissed and tried to get them to change it.

I personally know 12 people who have tested positive. 1 of them was pretty sick (not the healthiest of individuals) and ended up going to the hospital. He recovered and is fine. Another was sick for 2-3 weeks, but also had cancer a few years back. She has also recovered and is fine. The rest that were "sick" equate it to the flu at worst. Most of them had little to no symptoms.

My son's wedding was the 3rd week of August in Omaha. Couple hundred people there. Masks required in Church. Little to no mask wearing at reception. Guess how many positive cases resulted...zero.

Forgive me if I feel this whole thing doesn't pass the smell test.
I got it at a wedding reception. There was a big outbreak at it. I know there was at least 15+ cases. I have never asked our friend how many cases he knew of from it. I may ask in a few months. I felt bad for the their family.

(Tongue in cheek) How are you possibly posting in this thread if you had Covid-19? I can't believe you are alive.

Seriously though, I am not saying it is not real. I question the "pandemic" nature of it.

I am with you. Over 60% of the deaths are over 75 years old. Less than 1% are under 35. This is a disease the preys on the frail.

That's a rationalization.

Tell his wife of 67 years and his four children what you think. He died because of Covid-19. He may have already been frail but it was Covid-19 that ultimately caused his death now.

I suppose the next thing your going to tell me is that he is in a better place. That he doesn't have to deal with pain.
Either way its a rationalization, and I mean no disrespect at all with my comments. Whether it was because of Covid or with covid, a life was lost and that is a sad thing.

Next thing your going to tell me you like the premise of the movie Soylent Green.

What ripe old age do we cut off medical care? Society can save a lot of money if they don't have to pay out as Medicare and Social Security.

I just turned 74, does that mean my time is just about up?

Unfortunately it probably does. You have lived more life already then you have left. I turn 55 in November and you can say the same about me. Even if you live 20 or 30 more years that isnt that long. And lets be honest the chances of either of those isnt great. Not a lot of people live that long, fact of life.

Statistically, yes, it does. That is part of life.

I don't believe we just give up on "the old" by any means. I just don't know that this pandemic warrants the extremes some are suggesting are necessary.

If you do fit the demographic (elderly, immune deficient, etc) I believe you need to take extra precautions. Of course I believe that should be done during cold season, flu season, etc. My wife and I take precautions being around our parents whenever the situation warrants it. This is no different, just new. When (and if) I get to that age (not as many years before that any more) I will also need to take extra precautions. I do not expect the world to stop for my sake.

As far as Soylent Green...I have no idea what that is.

Charleston Heston movie from about 50 years ago where the government is turning people into a food called soylent green.

Yesterday I lost an uncle to Covid-19.

He was 97 years old and had experienced three heart operations

He and his wife lived in an assisted living facility. Both of them contracted Covid-19 from a driver with a car service they contracted with to take them to a medical appointment.

He was hospitalized for the last week but was not on oxygen. He seemed to be dealing with the virus OK.

His heart stopped and he died.

So did he die from Covid-19 or did he die with Covid-19?

Prior to the infection, he was functioning just fine. I maintain he died of Covid-19.

This is truly sad. I am sorry for you and your family. It puts life into prospective. What is important? I am sure others can speak more eloquently than I on this, but want to chime in here and say that we all are thinking about you and your family in this time. I would hope we all might take something from this. Life is precious and once it is gone those that knew will be left to carry on the memory.

Someday we will be able to look back on this moment in history and judge. What will our legacy in this time be?

At that age you are not of much use anymore. You are well past being productive. Body don't work, mind is not quite there. Hey, you could be president.

I understood your response and was just fine with all that you have said.

I was not trying to draw attention or sympathy to my family. I was trying to make a point about the Covid-19 pandemic.

Enough people have died that we are all resorting to statistics. How many have died from C-19, how many have died with C-19, how many have died from something else because our medical system is overwhelmed with C-19, what is our infection rate, how many have caught C-19, and more facts.

The reality is that each of these 200,000 deaths are real people that have families that are affected by the C-19 pandemic. They are not statistics.

It makes it easier to accept these deaths because most are older and have other secondary medical issues.

If Covid-19 had the same affect as Infantile Paralysis (Polio) society would be more up in arms. A disease that killed youth and young adults in their prime is not as easy to rationalize and accept as one that preys on the old and infirm.

If we find that Covid-19 affects the body in other ways and kills younger people slowly ea. multiple sclerosis, juvenile diabetes, and some heart conditions, again society will become much more alarmed.

As a society we must all start thinking about what is good for all of us and stop being so self centered. Just because you can, doesn't make it right for you to run around without a a mask and not social distance.
