Do you really feel that way, or are you just being cheeky?

At the risk of this comment being taken down:

Today I had lunch with a retired friend of mine and as we're talking I noticed that he was wearing his mask, taking a drink of beverage and putting his mask over his nose and mouth. He's been a bachelor for probably 30 years or more. So I asked him, "have you ever had "relations" with a stranger without using a condom?" And he said, "yes, why?" And I said, "then why are you so insistent on wearing a mask?" His reply was, "well some things are worth dying over."

I know three people who's deaths were attributed to the virus. One was a friend of mine's dad who was in his 90s and living in an assisted care facility. He was very frail and only had about 20% of his heart functioning. Doctors told his son a couple months before he before he died that one day he would not wake up from sleep. That is exactly what happened. He had no symptoms and was receiving no treatment but it was termed a Coronavirus fatality. The second was a guy who was 100 lbs overweight, diabetic and a two pack a day smoker. He got sick and had the symptoms. However, he was tested three times and all three came back negative. He became really ill and his wife rushed him to ER where they diagnosed him and put him on a ventilator. He died three days later. The third was a man who was in his 30s who had too many beers and crashed his motorcycle at high speed into a car. This was also attributed to coronavirus.

The fact is that hospitals get an extra 20% on bills that are coded at coronavirus related. It is no mystery why the numbers are inflated.

I know only 1 person (aunt of a friend) that passed "due to Covid-19" She had a stroke, fell and hit her head. Was in a coma and eventually passed. She tested positive for Covid-19, so they classified it as a covid death. Her brother (my friend's dad) was pissed and tried to get them to change it.

I personally know 12 people who have tested positive. 1 of them was pretty sick (not the healthiest of individuals) and ended up going to the hospital. He recovered and is fine. Another was sick for 2-3 weeks, but also had cancer a few years back. She has also recovered and is fine. The rest that were "sick" equate it to the flu at worst. Most of them had little to no symptoms.

My son's wedding was the 3rd week of August in Omaha. Couple hundred people there. Masks required in Church. Little to no mask wearing at reception. Guess how many positive cases resulted...zero.

Forgive me if I feel this whole thing doesn't pass the smell test.

Yesterday I lost an uncle to Covid-19.

He was 97 years old and had experienced three heart operations

He and his wife lived in an assisted living facility. Both of them contracted Covid-19 from a driver with a car service they contracted with to take them to a medical appointment.

He was hospitalized for the last week but was not on oxygen. He seemed to be dealing with the virus OK.

His heart stopped and he died.

So did he die from Covid-19 or did he die with Covid-19?

Prior to the infection, he was functioning just fine. I maintain he died of Covid-19.

This is such an extreme circumstance I dont think it really matters either way. If you live to be 97, hundreds of things could push you over the edge. Condolences on losing him. Just be happy he lived that long.

That's a rationalization.

Tell his wife of 67 years and his four children what you think. He died because of Covid-19. He may have already been frail but it was Covid-19 that ultimately caused his death now.

I suppose the next thing your going to tell me is that he is in a better place. That he doesn't have to deal with pain.

Agree 100%. While we don't know with 100% certainty that he would still be here today were it not for COVID-19, that's the assumption that we make. Yes, he could have had a heart attack or whatever and died, the fact is that he was doing fine for his age until he contracted COVID-19.

My condolences on your family's loss. COVID-19 is a sucky, sucky way to die.

I don't want to trivialize anybody's death. My condolences to you and your family.

At 97, the common cold could have caused your uncle to pass. Ultimately, it may certainly have been Covid-19, not disputing it.

There was a very healthy little old lady whose son (71) passed away in early April due to heart attack. She seemed to be as strong as I ever remember her. Never seemed to age. She passed away June 6 at the age of 94. Sad for the family, but it was her time. It was not Covid. The unfortunate thing about human beings is that we are mortal. We will all pass away some time. Average life expectancy for men is 75-78, women 80-83. This lady surpassed the average, her son did not. Your uncle also surpassed the average.
