The article Paul referenced isn't the same as the research papers that Scott Atlas was referring to, FTR. Also, the current survival rate is over 99.98% for every age demographic up to the point of average life expectancy, where it drops to 94%, so Im not sure how Maddow suggests a 3% death rate.
Scott atlas is not an infections disease specialist...not even close

"Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who has been rebuked by Trump for less-rosy assessments of the coronavirus recovery, also expressed concern that Trump’s late addition to the coronavirus task force, Dr. Scott Atlas, is sharing inaccurate information with the president.

“Everything he says is false,” Redfield said in a telephone call Friday on a plane from Atlanta to Washington, NBC reported."

I find it is interesting that in Ohio everything keeps opening up more and more, while the governor says this is far from over. It is like he is doing one thing and saying another. Are people finding it is like this in other states?

I can't take credit for this but some think the numbers are inflated.

Last night was a sad night for baseball. A cardboard fan got hit in the head by a foul ball and later died at the hospital of Covid-19.

Just heard about a "Covid death" this weekend. This is the second one that is close to home in any fashion for me. The first one, I believe I mentioned earlier in this thread. The second one was an individual who broke their neck and died. Was tested and found to be positive for Covid. Death certificate listed Covid as cause of death.

If this is what's happening all over the country, the number of deaths is probably highly overstated. I am not saying people are not dying from Covid, I believe they are and I feel for the families of those individuals. I just have a feeling (and have for quite some time) that Covid is more like the flu than the "end-of-the-world pandemic" it's made out to be.

With the exception of 1 individual, everyone that I personally know that has tested positive, was either asymptomatic, had allergy-like symptoms, had sinus-infection like symptoms, or indicated it was similar to the flu. All of them felt recovered within days, other than a little fatigue. More than one has indicated to me that this whole thing has been completely blown out of proportion.

I have said this before, I had covid. The diagnosis for me was much worse than the virus, even though I am 52 and type 2 diabetic. I couldn't and didn't get the proper care I needed. My illness was unrelated, maybe, to covid. Covid indirectly put me in the hospital. Nobody would see me. The only place you can go to is the emergency room. With a covid diagnosis you have to wait, depending on the place, 30 to 45 days symptom free to get any medical service. In the hospital I was placed in a covid wing, despite being 14 days symptom free and 3 days out of isolation. I learned from my nurses that hospitals get money for every covid patient and every covid death. So the medical industry of course will label a death covid, if they had it.

I find it ironic that the same people who hate the medical industrial complex is the same people that won't call them out when it comes to the death certificate. Ironic, but I guess not surprising.....

Cam Newton just tested positive for COVID - and NBC Sports is saying Sunday's Chiefs/Patriots game will not be played. Maybe played Monday - but unlikely. Titans/Steelers already cancelled for COVID but they do have a date later in 2020 that can be worked out to play the game.

If Pats/Chiefs can't be played this week - the byes don't work out to re-play later this season so the game will not be played unless the season is extended. If even one game is cancelled and not made up - it basically kills the entire Fantasy Football $$$ machine because you ruin the fairness of every player/team getting 16 games.

Now we know why the NFL was issuing those big fines to coaches - alot of risk around this many people being in close proximity and it is coming home to roost.

Will this impact ongoing college football somehow?? We shall see.

INTERESTING COVID-19 UNITED STATES STATISTICS TO DATE 10/11/2020:

214,000 deaths (using the CDC statistics). This is .064 % [less than 1%] of the U.S. population of 331,000,000. Of those deaths, 94% suffered from underlying serious health issues (co-morbidities, according to the CDC) That calculates to 201,160 deaths to people who were already seriously ill. The average age of the COVID-19 deaths is 82.4 years of age. There have been (using CDC statistics) 7,641,502 positive COVID-19 tests in the United States. That is approximately 2.3% of the entire U.S. population who have tested positive. Of that number of positive test results 80% have mild or no symptoms (asymptomatic). 15% are severe infections requiring oxygen and 5% are critical cases requiring ventilation. So 1,146,225 cases are considered severe (.35% [less than 1%] of the U.S. population). And 382,075 are considered critical cases and likely hospitalized. That means that of the most critical patients 168,075 survived. Of course if the average age from COVID-19 death is 82.4 then they may have died a bit later from BEING OLD.

Denial fuels the pandemic. I have now lost 3 friends to this hideous virus.

How does denial fuel the pandemic exactly? I'd like to see the scientific study that confirms that. I've lost friends and loved ones from cancer, heart attack, kidney disease and pneumonia. I don't see how my attitude about COVID-19 or any other virus would have anything to do with their deaths.

But the real numbers do paint a more rational picture of what has been happening to the elderly and the sick, especially in nursing homes. The last statistic i read indicates that over 30% of the deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in nursing homes. Probably higher when you consider that many of the dying are among people transferred from nursing homes to hospitals.
