Just to make sure my post isn't misconstrued by anyone, I think you guys do a good job as Admins, all kidding aside. I just know you are good natured enough to take a little ribbing, and not blow a gasket.Keep it up and we are going to slap one on you.![]()

not seeing that you got this answered so I'll try.Is there a real statistic to back this up or did it just get pulled out of someone's backside?

Thanks for clarifying that. Those kind of stat manipulations drive me crazy as it is trying to rewrite history. If you test positive and die, then you are counted as COVID-19 statistic. THere is no way of knowing if you would or would not have died, so a decision was made that anyone who is C-19 positive and dies is counted as a C-19 case. I believe that other countries are doing that as well. I won't say 100% as I don't know that and don't have time to try and research it but I do know that the US is not the only country counting C-19 cases in this fashion.not seeing that you got this answered so I'll try.
on the CDC site somewhere (I'm not going to look it up now, don't have time) it said that only 6% of the deaths were with people who only had covid and no underlying health issues. 94% of the deaths had an avg of 2.5 other health issues. So people ran with that and said only 10,000 deaths were from covid. I don't want to argue either way because no one knows how many of the 94% would still be alive if they didn't have covid. probably a high percentage I would bet. What I would argue is it should be obvious by now the total cases are WAY higher than reported due to all the asymptomatic people and the people who just didn't get tested. I've read it could be 10 to 20 times more. That puts the death rate at about 0.3%. Basically if you have underlying health conditions or are over 60-65 than yes, be careful.
I guess I'm really hoping the vaccine works so we can stop wearing masks. I don't mind wearing it in stores but don't want to do it forever!I was pleased to see the Surgeon General say and then reiterate yesterday that masks are far more effective than any C-19 vaccine is going to be. Around 85% effective for vaccines if I remember his quote correctly.
Ya, I think I will refrain from further comment concerning the subject.....As long as we don't ask Jarhead Husker about things being pulled from his backside....
If masks are more effective than vaccines, the anti-vaxxers have a pretty strong argument. Thanks for clarifying that. 64 with no underlying health issues, actually in very good health other than my fused back. We limit people in/out of the house, I wear a mask faithfully and shop at the time alloted for olders and then shower and wash whatever I wore to the store. It has worked very well so far so I'll continue to operate in the same manner.

I hate wearing the damn thing as well. I was just pleased to get, what I consider honest and accurate information.I guess I'm really hoping the vaccine works so we can stop wearing masks. I don't mind wearing it in stores but don't want to do it forever!
At best, masks reduce your viral load so they could actually reduce the potential to have an immune response as well. The problem with that is you would have to wear one in perpetuity. Here is the quote:
"I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against COVID than when I take a COVID vaccine,” Redfield said, adding that vaccines are not 100% percent effective.
“If I don’t get an immune response, the vaccine is not going to protect me,” he said. “This face mask will.”
Trump: CDC director Robert Redfield 'confused' about vaccine, masks
Right now, it is our best defense against COVID-19.At best, masks reduce your viral load so they could actually reduce the potential to have an immune response as well. The problem with that is you would have to wear one in perpetuity.
I don’t disagree. The only issue is whether its a good strategy in the long run for getting the virus down to where it is less deadly. Unfortunately, the only effective strategy is to get to herd immunity, be it from natural infection or vaccination. Anything else is just delaying the inevitble.Right now, it is our best defense against COVID-19.
I'm not sure why people are so willing to trash wearing masks.
Here's what I'm willing to do. I'll go in a room filled with COVID-19 folks, wearing my home made mask. The people who are against masks can go in the same room without wearing a mask. We'll wait 2 weeks and see what the statistics show us.

Nice, innmc! That one video trumps 17 pages of covid chatter!!!!
