Bowl Game?

Imagine it's 1997. Officials from the NCAA and Bowl Committee come to Nebraska and ask them if, after going 14-0, they'd want to play one more game against Michigan for all the marbles. Can anyone on this board fathom the possibility that anyone on that team would vote no? Yeah, me neither.

I get that the circumstances are different in these two scenarios, but that's not the point. It's the contrast in the attitudes of the respective teams which is so striking.

Okay, well Winter Conditioning -------------------->
Your describing a world that once was not the world as it is today. I certainly never thought I would see what is going on today.

Just spitballing here, but would it hurt for Frost to hire a couple of hard core Marine Boot Camp Instructors to work with these players on precision movements during the off season? I have not seen many more undisciplined players off of the snap as these players.

Not arguing Red. Agree with it all. But at some point you have to swipe the slate. Just saying, the team HAS to have time to regroup mentally, as well as the Staff. The Huskers HAVE to find their identity as a team. Personally would love to see a FB, and pancakes comeback. Not gonna happen, with the dinky do "O" they currently run. Let's just regroup
Good points. As someone I once knew, and someone who knew a lot more about dealing with groups of individuals overcoming obstacles than I, said...…..Sometimes you work around things, sometimes you work through things, …...and sometimes you forget everything and just start over. A good leader knows when to use which strategy.

I think the contrast in the records is even more striking.

I smell rampant voter fraud!!! ;)
I doubt it, youd have to leave the building too ya know.

Yea, I think theyre tired, homesick, and simply want out of the bubble.
Everyone that discredits players attitudes for not going forwards with a bowl, discredits their overall success few teams endured this year by playing by the criteria set before them, and doing it successfully during an epidemic.

Slighting these circumstances isnt looking at the players sizes of their hearts, but more, questions the size of the demanding.

Oh please, the payoff/BCS have all created a situation that is meaningless unless you are in the top 4. SCOTUS will kill whats left when they rule the players have a right to be paid and college football as I grew up is gone. Going home for christmas certainly is not a sign of cowardise or laziness.

By that logic, any team that drops a couple of games should decide the rest of the season is worthless and go home. And teams that have no realistic chance of making the playoff shouldn't bother to play at all.

Just want to say it's damn nice having you back posting, tfree. One of the posters my thoughts most aligned with from the good old days of this board...

Weve been seeing this for quite some time.
We used to be honored to participate in a bowl, possibly disappointed at times, yet still honored.
Now, when I say SF and UCF beat the only team that beat both teams thatwas in the CFB natty game, people responded, the players didnt want to be there, as UCF beat Auburn.

This by no means is new, nor is it more Husker than anywhere else.

One thing I haven't come across in this Bowl talk...what if, had it happened, that we lose some key players to major injury, forcing them to miss all of 2021, Wandale for example?, nah, it's a good thing they turned it down.

Let 'em get mentally and physically healthier, ready to come back with a fervent effort to redeem themselves...finally...let's hope.
So why ever go to any bowl game thats not a playoff game? You take the injury risk every time you step on the field. It could have happened in the Rutgers game. And that game had no more meaning than a bowl game.

Look no further than what happened to Farmer or DPE, even in practice, where were out a few players there too.

I dont think it's the number of games but more the lock down these guys put themselves into just so they could play.
Let's not forget a very large number of our players have been for all intent and purpose placed in a lockdown type scenario since the spring.....you understand now that is since they reported for spring ball that never happened.
Yes alot of them went home when the Big 10 did its rain dance about the season then had to return and go immediately into a quarantine situation till they knew they were Virus free only to then go Into the whole team lockdown.....imagine how bad it sucked to not just be a college student and experience things that every other normal student enjoys at college....I know its nit-picky but put yourself in their shoes.....that's all I'm saying.
I get it because I know what they missed out on just to play football and really in a normal year our record wouldn't get us close to a bowl except the toilet bowl with a sub .500 record so I think what was done will turn out for the best for the Huskers in the long run.
Heck most of them already had flights booked for home for today before they even left for New Jersey and you could see it in alot of their eyes and hear it in their voices....they were ready for a break from eachother.....

DOC HOLIDAY.

One view of bowl games is that they serve as a reward to the players for their hard work since the first week of August in a normal year. You want them to feel appreciated.

This year, you reward the players for putting up with the protocols by excusing them from a bowl game and letting them enjoy their families and some freedom.

Thanks Doc you get it.

Isn't the B1G one of the conferences that shares bowl revenue amongst all the teams in the league? If so, should a team that voluntarily opts out of playing sniff a penny of that money?

These are players on scholarship, room, training facilities, meals, shoes, training gear and clothing. I hate to be a hard a** about this, but I wouldn't have allowed the players to vote on this issue. If we know anything about the players on this Husker team, we know that they need as much practice and game experience as they can get. But I guess I'm just getting too old and need to get over the concept of physical and mental toughness for our young men. More man buns and less testosterone.
