Bowl Game?

After having a couple of days to think about it, I have come around to the players way of looking at this bowl issue. Athletes generally have a sense of pride in their accomplishments (human nature), and being selected to play in a bowl, at least in the past, was viewed as a reward for a winning season. I would guess that the members of this team probably look at this season with a sense of disappointment and probably don't think they should be rewarded for it. I've said before that as much as we fans are disappointed in the way our favorite team plays, the disappointment is probably much greater for the players and coaches than we fans will ever know. So, I'm going to put this past abbreviated season behind me and hope that Scott Frost and the other coaches can earn their salaries and put a winning product on the field next September. Hope springs eternal.

The other thing to keep in mind is that there is absolutely no "reward" to playing in any bowl game other than the playoff games this year.

I dont think it's the number of games but more the lock down these guys put themselves into just so they could play.
Let's not forget a very large number of our players have been for all intent and purpose placed in a lockdown type scenario since the spring.....you understand now that is since they reported for spring ball that never happened.
Yes alot of them went home when the Big 10 did its rain dance about the season then had to return and go immediately into a quarantine situation till they knew they were Virus free only to then go Into the whole team lockdown.....imagine how bad it sucked to not just be a college student and experience things that every other normal student enjoys at college....I know its nit-picky but put yourself in their shoes.....that's all I'm saying.
I get it because I know what they missed out on just to play football and really in a normal year our record wouldn't get us close to a bowl except the toilet bowl with a sub .500 record so I think what was done will turn out for the best for the Huskers in the long run.
Heck most of them already had flights booked for home for today before they even left for New Jersey and you could see it in alot of their eyes and hear it in their voices....they were ready for a break from eachother.....

DOC HOLIDAY.
Doc this is by far the most reasoned post in this thread. Most of us don't realize the lockdown they were in. They pretty much didn't go anywhere. That would suck.

l'm good with what the team decides to do. Their health and welfare is priority.

I see lots of fans that think of themselves and wanting to see another game, selfish motives...

It was absurd to think of playing a bowl game, what 5 days after playing Rutgers, and that number of practices would make a difference?
We have a winner. Many of us fans are selfish. We love Husker football but then lose sight that these are 18-23 year old young men. They aren't pros. Let's stop being so selfish as fans and enjoy the fact we got to see them play football at all this year!

Ya, the reality of their situation is being lost on most, I think. They are in College, can't socialize like normal on campus, and can't have outside contact with family and friends from home. Isolated and kept to strict regimen. It's like being on an overseas deployment for 6 months....

Look, I sort of wanted to see them play one more game. Actually, far from totally sold on that idea. However, it's not like they were going to get a bunch of extra practices in. Maybe 4, or 5? There really isn't much value in that. It's troubling that guys would vote to actually not play a game, as that thought would never enter my mind, but it's been a hard year for everyone. They should get a pass on that, but at the same time it does speak volumes as to what is going on with this team. I would have expected every player to say hell yes we want to play.

Isn't the B1G one of the conferences that shares bowl revenue amongst all the teams in the league? If so, should a team that voluntarily opts out of playing sniff a penny of that money?

Not when it was the B1Gs Commissioner's decision to shut down play first of all, then allow a condensed conference schedule only after bringing it back.

Bowl games this year will not be like bowl games in the past. They won't be able to do most fun activities because everything is shut down. They will mostly have to isolate. In short any bowl we would be in would be a money loser, no fun for the team and mostly a big waste of time.

Yeah, but all those negatives would be offset by the thrill of checking out BHF and reading the awesome things we all said about them after the game. :)

I know that I said half way through the 2nd quarter... this is the worst team I have ever seen. I still think that and really do not want to watch them play another game this year and I don't think Frost does either

It's been a difficult season for us all to be sure. I completely forgot to watch the last two Husker games and that is totally unlike me.

I can't imagine that the players are happy with their results either. I suspect that they are way more frustrated than we are.

Look so no one gets the wrong idea here .....HELL YES WE WANTED TO GO TO A BOWL GAME!.....That is one of the perks of the business Kate and I are in....the only clients we have for this time of year are Mt.Lion or Bobcat / Lynx Hunts and if they specifically want to hunt with me they have to be schedule their hunt around the Bowl Game...because that has always been part of our vacation....we try to start off our time away with whatever Bowl we got invited to then go from there...but last few years going to a Bowl has been a rare event but that's ok too cause we get more time to check things off our bucket list.
But anyway I never ever liked the idea of going to a bowl unless our play on the field said we deserved it....and this season like many others as of late we did anything but deserve a trip.....so to sum it up in a nutshell

Yes I am ok with the team opting to not take a bowl invite because they were sick of being locked up.

Yes I wished they had decided to play in a bowl only "IF WE WERE DESERVING OF A BOWL AND HAD A WINNING RECORD".....but not just because they needed teams to fill slots....trust me no matter what you might wanna think, the Big10 woulda stuck us with the worst possible bowl they could have just to deliver that one last parting jab.

Thank god there are only a handful of days left in this ****** year. If we do just one thing and that is fix the between the ears problems we will be in a bowl game for the 2021 season.

If the circumstances were different, they probably would've said "Hell Yes!" Many colleges have forgone playing in a bowl game. Some with big names as well. Not just Nebraska.
