B1G about to have a "surprise" expansion.

Big Ten reportedly waiting on Notre Dame before adding Washington, Oregon

Could the Big Ten be adding Notre Dame, Oregon and Washington as well? Reports indicate that could be in play

I would link the article but that was it. Big headline with 2 sentences afterward.

I hate Notre Lame. That being said, why would the Drunken Irish ever agree to join a conference? They get thst exclusive contract with NBC and don't have to split it with anyone. Plus, they get coddled with cushy bowl invites and special playoff consideration, all without having to play in, and win, a conference.

(If I had my way, I'd ban Notre Shame out of existence.)

myself as well.. i'm a fan of anyone who plays ND and if they ever played texas..i'd hope that they would end in a tie cause i would hate to see either one win. still..the writing is on the wall. the superconferences are being formed and it's get on/in one or get out/be out. geographically, the big10 makes the most sense but the geography thing doesn't matter anymore.

I am still kinda taking the decision to add USC and UCLA to the BIG.

As I have been thinking about it though, I like it more and more from a potential matchup point of view. However, outside of the matchups, this will undoubtedly widen the gap even further from the have nots and the haves.

If..and I stress *If*.. ND commits to the big10 (still think thats a reach but given what just happened, who can really cross that out as a possibility).. I just hope ND isn't part of the same division as Nebraska. Maybe -that's- what Trev was getting to as in *its going to be uncomfortable* ;) Maybe he's an ND hater as well

Interesting headline but color me skeptical. As we've seen in the past, these types of headlines say more about the schools named who are hoping for an invite than it does about what the conference actually has up its sleeve. If we know anything about the B1G since our invite, it's that the conference plays its cards very close to the vest.

Personally, I'd put money on Stanford being next in line if the B1G expands further into Pac 12 Country.

I don’t think Notre Dame has a real choice anymore. Their current contract is $15 million annually. They join the Big 10 and they might net upwards of $100 million annually. Plus, USC is now a Big 10 team, which is one of their rivals. I’m quite certain they are in and I hope the Big 10 knows that, because they are going to have all kinds of demands.

Notre Dame is probably too stubborn to realize that at some point NBC will abandon them and start competing with ABC, CBS, and FOX for the big market conferences.

I'd rather see Stanford join than Oregon or Washington. Surprisingly the Ducks and Huskies are the biggest draw in the Far West, getting near 70k/game. The B1G has the crown jewels with USC and UCLA, but other than Stanford there's not a lot of traditional prestige beyond those three. Leave the Ducks and Huskies for the Beavers to play with.

USC wouldn't be coming if Notre Dame wasn't on board. It is time to raid the ACC for some teams to stretch the eastern bracket North to South.

I think you go to 4 team conference championships. Four divisions, play your division, then 6 from other divisions. That leaves 3 nonconference. You know the B1G needs to horde schedules to command the money.

Smarter guys than me will figure it out but by 2024 I think that conference divisions will be gonzo. Or. at least, any divisional methodology that means that USC might go several years without routinely getting to play Ohio State, Michigan etc. Those paying for the TV rights would be unhappy.

I would be lying if I said I didn't lookup a Colorado Buff message board site and would be lying even more if I said I didn't enjoy their meltdown at the various consequences that they brought up, for their school, due to the poaching of two of their conferences best -by name- teams.

Because right now they get about $15mil annually in media revenue. Within the B1G that will be 7x's more.

My only thing is...what about everything in moderation? When is how much, too much. When is enough, enough...etc.

Will we see a mini(intra conference) CFP....1 vs 4, 2 v 3, or do an 8 team B1G CCG?
