B1G about to have a "surprise" expansion.

Well the removal of conference schedules after this year had everyone speculating how things were going to play out. Let the speculation begin anew now. Scheduling will be VERY interesting in the future.

If this comes to pass, it seems to me that this has the potential to eliminate the schedule inequities that come from crossover scheduling. The 'New' West would be USC, UCLA, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Illinois. Each team plays all of its divisional opponents and three non-conference opponents of the program's choosing. The winner of the West and the East play each other in the B1G Championship game.

I think, for the non-revenue sports... wrestling, hockey, baseball, tennis etc etc... we might see the rise of smaller/local affiliations within the new B1G much like hockey is now, Teams will play a schedule that is comprised of opponents fairly nearby, rather than carting them all over the country,

The B1G would be the first true Power Five coast-to-coast league with this move.

I'm not sure it matches Whorns/OU to the SEC, but it's probably the next best move.

Notre Dame and USC might be a slightly better upgrade, but ND has turned down multiple offers to join the B1G. UCLA always has some exceptional athletes, even in their down years.

This is a far better move than Texas/OU to the SEC... because MONEY. The value of the SEC's move is ALL about Texas. OU is lucky to have hitched a ride. Likewise, this is all about the LA and SoCal TV market... that Billion $ TV deal in the works may quickly double in the coming years.

There's debate within the ACC, the Ivy League and the schools that, ostensibly still seem to place value in the STUDENT part of student-athlete. And that debate is only getting hotter... do they choose to not join the escalating arms race of the B1G and SEC and reaffirm that it is academics first?

Notre Dame is having that discussion with themselves right now, and the pressure to make a decision is quickly reaching a boiling point.

The speculation of those on the inside anymore (these days it’s sports talk guys and not message board guys and you have to listen close and read between the lines they throw in to keep their inside access) is divisions are going away. In fact all Big 10 schools have already submitted their preferred crossover games “should divisions go away”.
SPECULATION - the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence. I read some speculated division going away because they showed no division partners on a schedule someone saw for 2023, maybe this news of pending new members had something to do with that. I can see nothing good coming from the dssolution of conferences offiliatioin in this manner. What I do see is the dilution of power in the NCAA

The passion will definitely go down for me. Switching to a new conference cost some old rivalries, which was a shame.
I understand pining for 'the good ole' days but the CFB landscape has been changing rapidly and Nebraska was --- IMHO, very fortunate --- to get safely into the Big Ten when it did.

I have no doubt that our program's history and fan following would have kept us from being left high and dry like Kansas State, Iowa State, Oregon, Washington, and the Arizona schools. If the SEC took Mizzou, you know they'd have taken us.

But that begs the question: Would you prefer being in a second-tier football league now or playing a schedule full of Southern teams in the SEC? I hated playing Texas and her homies in the Big XII, I can only imagine how horrible it would have been in the SEC.

In the B1G, we're dealing with other Midwestern programs like us and USC and UCLA. But the fact of the matter is, we've had a long history with those two schools. More importantly, the addition of the LA schools is guaranteed to make our next TV contract bigger than the SEC's.

All in all, I think Nebraska is coming out of this massive restructuring of CFB in pretty good shape. Now all we need is for Frost to get the program back on track. :)

No wonder EA Sports is waiting until July of 2023 to release the next College Football game.
By then the conference members might be settled.

So where do we see Oregon, Oregon St., Arizona, Arizona St, Utah and Colorado ending up? Do they head to the Big 12? Mountain West? Does the rest of the Pac 12 join the Big 12? Add BYU and Boise St to that mix maybe? And now what happens to the ACC? Didnt the Big 10, Pac 12 and ACC just join forces a couple months ago?

Lincoln Riley juuuust left Oklahoma to coach USC in the PAC12. Now..he's going to be coaching USC in the BIG10.. funny how that stuff changes and now he'll be coaching against teams with a real defense.

I bet that once ND does join a conference, it'll be the ACC. They played an ACC conference type schedule during that covid season and it would be an easier schedule for them overall as the teams currently stand.

Kickoff times for those west coast home games..9pm here if it's a night game? ugh

Don't be surprised if the two Big Dawgs, the B1G and the SEC -- with help of ESPN and Fox Sports -- decide to create a National Championship tournament/game of between the two of them and say 'screw you' to the rest of the CFB World.

In other words, you need to be in one of our two leagues or you're toast. That'll put the pressure on ND to join the B1G and Clemson to join the SEC and then...the rest of them? Who cares?

The others can create their own super league and championship. But whatever they do, all the money and attention will be with the two Big Dawg leagues.

AZ, AZ st, Utah and Colorado are rumored to be B12 bound.

Whoopdie-do. Without Texas and Oklahoma, the Big XII is a second tier league, same goes for the Pac 12 without USC and UCLA.

What the SEC said with its acquisition of Texas and Oklahoma and what the B1G just said with its acquisition of USC and UCLA is that no other conference really matters anymore in this new, rapidly-changing world of CFB.

I wonder if USC and UCLA realize that their surfing teams will get their butts kicked by B1G schools?
