Rumor: Possible expansion announcement this week.

Los Veinte Grandes...I like it

Washington to Florida. That is an extremely large footprint. At this point what is the purpose of a "conference?" There are only 2 players left in the realignment of college football. All others on the outside looking in.

I heard mention of this scenario and blew it off. I maybe shouldn’t have. Should this scenario come to fruition we can put a national title on the far back burner. Winning the conference would be a monumental task worthy of our full attention for sometime to come.

If they do this and create 4 divisions of 5 teams based on geography, we might be stuck in the west.

Clemson
Florida State
Penn State
Maryland
Rutgers

Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Indiana
Purdue

Northwestern
Iowa
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Illinois

Nebraska
USC
UCLA
Washington
Oregon

They are eliminationg divisions after this year.

Eliminating divisions is a double-edged sword. It reminds me of the old days of MLB. You want a bunch of teams to feel they've got a shot versus being shut out early after a key loss.

With that many teams, divisions make sense for a lot of reasons. I just assumed that Big 10 and SEC would keep adding teams until they could create NFL style geographical divialsions.

I expect the end result will be a top tier of teams in an NFL-style system with a 12-16 playoff. Like college basketall, conference championship will play second fiddle to being one of the top 5 or 6 teams in the B1G who make it into the NC playoff. The Big Dawgs (SEC & B1G) will be open to some other Big Dawg teams joining their playoff party - but not too many.

I imagine of the main goals of the Big 10 is to force ND into the conference. I wonder how much longer they'll hold out.

I hope this turns out to be nothing. 16 teams is already too many, and the geography of it sucks for fans as well. Stop the $&@%#€¥ insanity already.
Next thing you know, they'll end up splitting those 20 teams up into two 10 team divisions where the winners play one another - OMG, they could play in the Rose Bowl every year to dtermine the winner. ;);););)

Rumor from FSU booster is the announcement should be on Wednesday, but they anticipate an 11th hour bid by the SEC at FSU, Clemson, and possibly Miami in some kind of wrench to derail the plan. It would be nice to see Stanford if they expand out West like they are saying.
