Roster movement

There is going to have to be some serious purging on the roster after the spring.

It looks like they committed to five more this last weekend. But this puts them over 100 and they have to get down to 85 scholarships.
So roughly 15 on the current roster have to leave. Either that or they have to start converting some to gray shirts or blue shirts or county scholarship shirts. Or I guess some medicals.

Doesn't the B1G have a requirement that the scholarships are good for four years not one?

This will get very interesting
It will be interesting. I can go down the scholarship distribution list and and mark off a few guys I could see leaving.
This makes me think this could be a really quick roster flip too. As many transfers and portal players coming in,
I also wonder if it would not be in the best interest of a coach/athletic department to start funneling NIL money - excuse me, hope the collectives distribute deals - to contributing seniors and then have those players "walk-on". 1 year deal for a collective. Such a short term investment. That frees up scholarships for underclassmen.
The numbers will work out at some point.

Yeah, I noticed. I got home from a night of "imbibing" and thought I really had too much after I logged in and forums were in the wrong spot.

Hey gang,

You may have noticed we re-org'd the forums a bit. Please put any posts announcing new recruits/portal transfers etc in the recruiting/portal forum and keep this discussion about our current roster/changes
thx!

Not fighting you on this. But still feel the recruiting subject has a direct impact on roster movement. There is going to be some serious movement after spring ball. Somewhere close to 20 players currently on scholarship ain’t going to have a chair to sit on when the music stops. Rhule has adopted more of an NFL style camp. Wonder who plays the role of grim reaper.

In his interview on Bussin' With The Boys he talked about one of the things he did not like about the NFL was the fact that he had to fire people, I think he enjoys the fact that in the college game you have 3-5 years to develop players and prepare them for the next chapter whether that is the NFL or them moving into the real world.

Some of our roster may still have their COVID year and I don't think that counts against us.

Coach Rhule.

In my book, telling a kid the hard truth that he'll have a better opportunity to play somewhere else is considerably different from telling a professional football player he's been cut.

I believe we have 7 "seniors" who have received another year because of 2020 COVID. Some say these 7 will not count towards the 85 Limit. IF so that means we need to weed out 9 and not 16. That is a big difference.

Are any of the kids that came here through the portal getting big enough NIL deals to pay their own way? Or are they all on scholarship? I have seen them post they are committed here but does that automatically mean they were offered a scholly? Just asking because that is one way you could get around the limit.

ESPN names a transfer as Michigan football’s top newcomer for the 2023 season

Rittenberg says the Nebraska transfer, Ernest Hausmann, just might be the biggest get for the Wolverines.

The portal continues to be fruitful for Michigan, which got its biggest boost from a transfer last season (center Olu Oluwatimi from Virginia). Don’t be surprised if linebacker Ernest Hausmann has a similar effect for the Wolverines’ defense, which struggled in the CFP semifinal loss to TCU. Hausmann started seven games as a true freshman at Nebraska, recording 54 tackles with a sack and a fumble recovery. He joins a linebacker group led by top tackler Junior Colson and talented rusher Jaylen Harrell but still wants more reliable options. Hausmann fills a clear need for Michigan in 2023. Another potential impact transfer on defense is edge Josaiah Stewart, who led the Sun Belt in sacks two years ago (12.5) and could help a front that loses sacks leader Mike Morris.

That’s too bad about Alante. I always felt that he was on the verge of a breakthrough. Hopefully he’s leaving at least partly based on how good the newcomers are.
There is just a lot to like about this young man. Sorry to see him go. But the WR room is full and there are lots of potential returners.

I wonder what the heck is really going on down there. Brown and Washington are good
