Roster movement

Several things have changed since Scott left, but none as big (quantity wise) as the walkon class. Of course we offered a lot more instate Scholarships this year. I think, as mentioned in the clip, every one of these four has the potential to make the roster........but I think it will be at least a couple of years before they do. I think we'll see if Matt and co can indeed develop with these four.

Just observating here but do you guys remember Javontae Jean-Baptiste? He was a hard Nebraska lean his senior year in high school and at the last minute signed with Ohio State. He's in the portal with his degree and looking to play one more year of college ball. He was a highly touted rush end and played quite a bit at Ohio St. I wonder if Rhule is interested.

I have a question. I am not sure how the scholarship limits work now with the COVID numbers and what not. But I think NU has about 90 players on scholarship now and they are still offering. Does that mean that they are expecting some players to leave?

I am . Some guys just will not fit into the new scheme. Some will not like how they come outa spring ball . Some will still have warm and fuzzies for the old staff . Some will be asked to move along if they want to see the field
I expect to see about 10 between now and the conclusion of spring ball

I suspect we lose two QB's for sure.

That is what I suspect as well. We have six and I would think 4 at the most would have a chance at seeing the field. I also noted that even though we have 11 scholarship receivers on the roster, yet they are looking for more. This indicates to me that some may not fit the needs of Rhule's system. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of them leave. There are a few other positions with seem to have excessive numbers as well.

My real question was if they get extra scholarships due to COVID or do they need to trim to 85.

My understanding of the covid thing is that guys get an extra year but the 85 has still been in place
( could also be why so many have been in the portal)

I am not certain. However, I was under the impression that the scholarships on the extra year didn't count against the 85. But I do not know who is eligible and how it applies.

NCAA Extra Year of Eligibility

It’s not a clear cut answer , but it does talk about recruiting and knowing who will take the extra year effecting how many scholarships can be offered

Thanks, it appears to me that if an athlete decides to stay for that extra 5th or 6th year, his scholarship does not count against the 85. That would apply for transfers as well.

I'm confused. I didn't see that. Can you show me where it says that? Thanks.

Ultimately, it’s the school’s and coach’s decision to decide if they want to extend their scholarship limit to include fifth year seniors or transfers. The determining factor is whether or not a school can afford to give scholarships over the maximum.
Is this interpreted to mean we can go over the 85 limit?

Some rumblings about Ajay Allen maybe testing the waters, hope they do not come to pass. There is no mention of Nebraska in his Twitter bio.
