Bowl Game?

Why is it 'a long grind of a season'?
It was the shortest football season since we played the Haskell Indians. DocFumblerooski was only a young lad.

I'm good with it. Extra practices would have been nice. But having said that - a bowl at 3-5 ? Nah. Let the boys AND the coaching staff get a breath, get their heads cleared, and start this thing over with, maybe with a little more offensive and special teams clarity.

"Unfortunately for Frost, the season in Lincoln didn’t go according to plan. As a result, the Nebraska head coach will need a strong fourth year in 2021 if he wants to keep his job."

Ouch.
“Zach is an intern at The Spun.”

Not gonna worry about what this little kid has to say.......especially one that doesn’t have a job

Imo the practices would have been nice, but the game experience for newbies would have been really nice. Imo game experience is the equivalent to about a dozen practices. Habits can be developed by practice repetition, but game experience internalizes things that few practices can.

Having said that, it wasn't going to be only newbies that would have been playing. It would have been everyone, and has been mentioned, injuries could really derail spring ball.

I did love Garrett Nelson's response tho………"I'm a football player, so I want to play." Ya gotta love that attitude.

No, not a whole lot of diff between 4-5 and 3-6. I would rather end the season with the team on a positive note since they won a road game. Let the kids go home and enjoy the Holidays with their families. They can relish their victory as opposed to going to a crappy Class C bowl game, God forbid lose the game and spend the offseason dwelling on the loss instead of feeling good because they won a game on the road that they very easily could have lost.

Not much to be gained in the extra practices so I see far more negatives in playing a bowl game versus letting the team enjoy their families and reload physically and psychologically.
Family

Not necessarily. Many kids are part of "blended families"-- step mother or step father or perhaps foster parents, natural parents. I'll stick with families.
Yep.
Plural of family is families, more than one.

Or, brothers family, sisters family etc besides a kids parents, siblings often have their own family,
or families

Not arguing Red. Agree with it all. But at some point you have to swipe the slate. Just saying, the team HAS to have time to regroup mentally, as well as the Staff. The Huskers HAVE to find their identity as a team. Personally would love to see a FB, and pancakes comeback. Not gonna happen, with the dinky do "O" they currently run. Let's just regroup

I'm disappointed they decided not to play. I get they are tired and burned out after a tough season. But the extra practices and game time would have helped.

And I can't help but see this as a kind of test. Do you play lights out until the final whistle or do you mail it in during the 4th quarter because you're tired and worn out and miss your family?

The type of team that will win league and national championships would never give up and go home when there is more football to be played. For the last twenty years, this team has dealt with adversity by curling up in the fetal position until it was over. True champions fight through pain and press forward. The Huskers just proved once again they have a long way to go to get to that mindset.

My personal feeling is that not playing in a bowl game is a mistake.

And yeah, "...it's been a long season..." lol what????? Seven games constitutes a long season?

They can't use Covid as a reason, cause everyone else has had to deal with it.

I'm starting to wonder if this "love football" is mere talk to placate the fans. Like, not to be pedantic, but opting to not play in a bowl game just seems contradictory to the "we just wanna play football" message they've been preaching.

So the team has voted no on going to a bowl game. Gawd I soooo badly want to make a joke about voting fraud here.

:naughty:

The vote was NO and I don't blame them. If their heart wasn't going to be into playing in some third tier bowl then absolutely don't do it. Different story if they were in the CFP or New Year's 6 bowl game. Also we fans have been pretty hrad on the team this year. We need a rest and move on to next year.

If their hearts aren't in it because they are tired and want to go home, they are a long way from having the heart and fight to be champions.

Normally, I'm with you 100%
This year hasnt been normal, theres friends and family likely, of the players who've been affected by the virus this year, besides directly getting it, which unfortunately may have also happened.

This year, everyone gets a pass, we ,or some, simply may need one.

Imagine it's 1997. Officials from the NCAA and Bowl Committee come to Nebraska and ask them if, after going 14-0, they'd want to play one more game against Michigan for all the marbles. Can anyone on this board fathom the possibility that anyone on that team would vote no? Yeah, me neither.

I get that the circumstances are different in these two scenarios, but that's not the point. It's the contrast in the attitudes of the respective teams which is so striking.

Okay, well Winter Conditioning -------------------->

I get it.
And to truly set in stone this philosophy, theyd be playing.
But if there's one time with an unfortunate acceptance, its this year, which only leaves us questioning the things you questioned, since the team hasnt proven them

I strongly but respectfully disagree. Champions play through adversity. Quitters make excuses and head home.

We'll see some teams playing championship football in the next few weeks. So will the Huskers. On television. In their parents' living rooms. Let's hope they take some notes and feel some embarrassment.

Again, I think we need to look at this big picture/small picture.
Some payers have legitimate reasons not to, others do not.
Since it was done democratically, that leaves many in the middle.

Those many fit your description, the other two sides dont, or, those who wanted to play vs those who had real reasons to go home, already sacrificed time with loved ones affected by the pandemic, which each has its own allowance.

The ones in the middle? I agree with you, the ones who wanted to play, I agree with them, the ones that have legitimate reasons not to play, I also agree with them.

Oh please, the payoff/BCS have all created a situation that is meaningless unless you are in the top 4. SCOTUS will kill whats left when they rule the players have a right to be paid and college football as I grew up is gone. Going home for christmas certainly is not a sign of cowardise or laziness.
