Bowl Game?

Hearing they voted no bowl game. What a horrible look for a team that wanted to play so bad. Whatever, 2020. It's almost over!
Seriously— these kids haven’t seen their families since spring and the bowl would mean they miss Christmas also— and the 12/26 bowl would only add three or four practices- suggest a little more empathy and a little less sanctimony

Martinez has not seen his family since March. I gotta say family is more important than a class C bowl game.

I guess my take is: We're guaranteed a losing record no matter what happens in a bowl game, so is there really any tangible difference between records of 4-5 vs 3-6?

If the team opts to not play, I'm good with it. But I think if they have an opportunity to play one more time, they should.
No, not a whole lot of diff between 4-5 and 3-6. I would rather end the season with the team on a positive note since they won a road game. Let the kids go home and enjoy the Holidays with their families. They can relish their victory as opposed to going to a crappy Class C bowl game, God forbid lose the game and spend the offseason dwelling on the loss instead of feeling good because they won a game on the road that they very easily could have lost.

Not much to be gained in the extra practices so I see far more negatives in playing a bowl game versus letting the team enjoy their families and reload physically and psychologically.

I would like to see how we stack up outside of conf though

I am good with ending the season - as mentioned - not gonna get many practices. And players have been on campus a long time. Since it would seem likely Spring ball will happen (under similar rules - at least until the vaccine ramps up). Take the break and prep for Spring ball (and sort out the roster - I think over 10 of the new signees will be here for Spring practices).

There's going to be very few bowl games played this year anyways and you don't get the normal 15 practices. So opting out of a bowl game this year doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things. If we played a game in a week you would only get two more normal padded practices. It's the game reps that could have been useful for some of the freshman is all.

I see where you and another also are saying you hear they voted "NO".....Where did you hear this from ? Sources ?
No one I know down in Lincoln is saying any thing period....that the team had talked amongst themselves on the trip home and some late today after just chilling and sleeping in....but no decision has been reached yet mainly because they wanted to know where they would go and who they would get to play.....once they knew this then they will make a choice and I think that's smart on their part in my opinion.
But that anything as far as a vote or any such thing had not I REPEAT NOT TAKEN PLACE YET.

My info comes right from the Football Staff.

Doc makes a good point— I doubt they take a team vote before we know who and where they are playing,

If they choose not to play, remember this is not a typical bowl. Normally we would fly in and spend a week on the beach, going to Disneyland and being taken out for really nice meals.

This year they will fly in, play a game and fly out. Don’t blame them at all if they have had enough of 2020. I know I have

Multiple people on another site saying defense wants to play, offense doesn't. Frost said a couple bowls have contacted them about playing. Decided they wouldn't play. Who knows. Thank you for your info and I hope you're right. Find out tomorrow I guess.

After watching Scott's post game presser I get it either way now. I'd still like to see em rest up and not make a decision til Sunday or later bc that nj trip was a grind. But I get why everyone needs the break too. Either way GBR, the future is bright.

Yeah I saw that also but yet not a single poster would say where they heard the info.
Sadly in my own experience I learned that to post any "hearsay" information is never a good thing and 90% of the time will come back to haunt you and damage your credibility....trust me I learned the hard way.....posted what a former Defensive Assistant Coach told me and it was 100% wrong...made me look stupid but taught me to never post Info I dont know for fact or have seen with my own 2 eyes.
Not saying somebody might know something I don't but unless I know it to be truth.....its just a waste of time.
I have found out there was interest from a bowl looking fo fill a Day after Christmas ( the 26th ) spot but that would be too short a turn around for us after already running on a short week with the trip to the east coast to play Rutgers so that wasn't gonna work...our guys gotta have at least a couple days rest and a more normal game prep at the very least.

Thank you again. That's why I come here, to see what you have to say about things. You're pretty much it for "insider info" on this site anymore.

Do they need to declare today or an they wait till the invitation?

Dec 26th game- Say No

Dec 30th game, can they go home for Christmas and still play. Quarantine issues.

having Christmas on Dec 27 is not the same.

I can see they would be making a big sacrifice

One site is projecting Navy vs. Nebraska in the Military Bowl Dec. 28. They added these words:

Nebraska is probably in even at 3-5. The bowls need teams, no one wants to play football games more than Nebraska does – it’s not opting out of anything – and there are openings.

Just one person's speculation, but that could be a fun matchup. Lots of Navy vets in Nebraska, and I can't ever remember playing them in my lifetime.

If, and that's a big if, if the Huskers play in a bowl game they need to get three weeks off afterwards. Covid has been such an shitbag that these guys deserve a break.

We're all suffering, but very few of us are suffering in the public eye. Give these kids, and the coaches a break.
