What to do at QB?

Murphy did not impress when he got the starts while Ewers was out, and that was with the O-line and weapons that Texas had. I would pass on him, CT was a lot more proven when we nabbed him.

I don't know a whole lot about the ins and outs of choosing a good QB, but I saw this article and thought maybe he'd be worth a look for the future...

Sandhill Thedford High School (Dunning, Neb.) has been on the verge of a championship multiple times this decade. In both 2020 and 2021, the Knights reached the championship game but failed to grab the title.

This past Monday, junior quarterback Kyle Cox decided he would not let that happen again.

Cox rushed the ball a state record 65 times, recording 486 yards and six touchdowns to help the Knights cruise to a 50-12 win.

May I remind you that Neb did not even win its division? Colorado beat texass and you know we could never beat Texass
they lost a lot that year. What like 2 games? How the Heck did they get in the MNC game?
It's all wishful thinking anyway it's never going to happen. The staff isn't familiar with the option enough to teach it.

Didn't see his measurables in that article but I'll say it like this. He seems to be durable.

First 2 games of the season
Sims didn't finish CU game and Prochazka didn't return until mid season and that was on a rotation basis but still going to judge him off of 2 games? And at calling plays I don't think he is as bad as people think. How many open receivers did the qb's miss? Along with the dropped passes? I do question his game/time management and ability to teach/develop qbs.

QBs not seeing open receivers is on the coaches. It's their responsibility to fix and develop that in a QB. Otherwise they aren't doing the QB and more importantly the team any favors. As for Prochazka he was 3rd string until Corcoran went down. Then he became the starter.

Prochazka played in 5 and started 2 games as freshman and started 3 games as sophomore before injuries ended both season. So he would've been returning starter if not injured. And I completely agree with not seeing open receivers as a coaching issue. But if you are playing qb how confident are you in getting to 2nd or 3rd option before getting hit? Is it Satterfields fault when qb misses an open receiver? What about when receivers drop a ball?
The qb injuries/carousel contributed to the offensive woes this season. Like I stated his game/time management is my biggest issue witth. And I asked in another thread couple days ago. Who is making these calls? Does MS have complete control over offensive tempo? Shouldn't Rhule be able to recommend run/pass? I'm not going to dump on this staff after 1 season.

1. Satterfield is either OC or QB coach, but not both. My guess is he stays OC and we need to find a highly respected QB coach who doesn't look like a Harry Potter character. :) Start intensive coaching of Kaelin the second he steps on campus.
2. Purdy can stay as a backup, but I don't think he's the answer. Bring him in for designed QB runs as a surprise tactic, like Auburn does with Ashford.
3. HH should switch positions and play TE or some other position where his speed can be used to better advantage. He does NOT need to be throwing the ball.
4. Jeff Sims is a good guy and I wish him the best in his future endeavors. I think he gave it his best shot but this level of intensity is just too much for him.
5. OL improved slightly, but they still can't protect against better defenses. Iowa was on Purdy all the time last Friday. We need at least one portal OL candidate, maybe two if Scott leaves.
6. Please bring us an experienced portal QB who has the intangibles. We need a guy with vision and maturity. We would have won at least two more games this year with a QB who routinely spotted open receivers and got the ball into their areas. We haven't had a QB who can make good decisions on the fly in years. Who is that guy? I don't know, but there has to be someone who can do that at a P5 level. Other schools find those QBs with regularity. Why can't we???
