Uenth's Official Humbled Huskers v. THE Buckeyes Thread

Yep, did we get sold on Temple and Baylor Matt Rhule and end up getting Carolina Matt Rhule?
These are just pure statistics.
2nd year at Temple, 6-6 overall and 4-3 through 7 games.
2nd year at Baylor, 7-6 overall and 4-3 after 6 games.
2nd year at Nebraska, 5-2 through 7 games.
He's right where he tracks to in college.

So we currently have the guy we were sold on.

I think what is causing people to panic or question was the fact that we were so thoroughly unprepared for Indiana. Nebraska played with no emotion, no physicality, and looked lost both on offense and defense.

If Matt Rhule can fix these glaring deficiencies, I think we'll be okay, but man getting thumped by 49 points to a team that was 3-9 last year, with a 1st year HC stings. And I'm immensely understating it when I say stings.

It does bother me. I don't care if the opponent is Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, etc...

If Nebraska plays well and loses a close game, yes it is disappointing, but I can handle that.

But getting blown out, dominated, and losing by wide margins should NEVER happen. We're Nebraska for cripes sake, play with some passion, dignity, and pride--fight to the bitter end.
I guess I should've clarified my point better. I don't like getting blown out by anyone especially to the likes of Indiana. I don't want us to be blown out by Ohio State, but it's easier to swallow for me because they are immensely more talented than we are and especially Indiana.

I would agree with the point about being competitive. NO team in the B1G (or any conference) should be 7 touchdowns better than Nebraska (including Ohio State). Not saying we should be #1 or go undefeated but we should be able to step on the field and put up a RESPECTABLE fight against anyone. That is what Nebraska fans want, to be respected again and not be embarrassed.
Well yes and no. It was just a few years back that we didnt get blown out by anyone and put up a respectable fight in every game and went 3-9. Were the fans happy??? Absolutely not. Most fans want the 80s or 90s back. When we blew through teams like Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern and only lost in the Championship games or to OU in the final seconds. Even then a lot of fans werent happy.

The Huskers were never in this game. Tone was set with Barney's KOR mistake. And game was over when Dowdell lost the fumble deep in Indianas territory that was a first down and possibly could have tied the game. As soon as it was lost Indiana made us pay and the game was essentially over at that point. We did patch together a good enough drive to score a TD to cut the lead to 14-7 but then we KO and Indiana rammed the ball down our throats.

Going into the season, I knew that our offense was going to be a work-in-progress. But I expected the Blackshirts to shine--especially against the run. In the Big Ten, if you can't a) stop the run; and b) pound the rock yourself, you're going to have a rough time of it. At this point, I have to admit I expected more (a) serious run stoppage on D and more (b) chunk plays running the ball from our O. I also expected more explosive passing plays from our O than we've gotten thus far.

Obviously, this is a gut-check week. It doesn't look good but there's still a lot of football yet to be played. Go Big Red!

It was a beautiful noon-day sun in Bloomington and Husker optimism filled the air. The coin was tossed and it landed Husker red. What followed was a bit of a preview of incredible things to come. "We'll give the ball to the Hoosiers," shouted our ceremonial captains. "What?! said I." And thus the stage was set early for the afternoon nightmare of a contestless contest.

Indiana, whose offense has been a scoring machine, got the ball and did not disappoint. They scored. Things happen. Now, it was our turn. Indiana kicked off, and our special team picked off the ball on our own one-yard line and, as a matter of fact, stepped out of bounds. Some things don't just happen at least they are not supposed to happen ... at least not if you have a special teams coach.

Putting a freshman quarterback on his own one yard line to start a game in a very hostile environment is really setting him up to fail. And he did, so much so that his brain got rattled and he was basically pedestrian the rest of the game. Ok, three interceptions are less than pedestrian.

The defense, playing against a very good offense coached creatively well, becoming unmotivated by both special teams and the offense, lost sight of their training and yes, to some extent called it a day early.

I don't know what Coach Rhule has done since the beatdown, but I would have given the team Sunday off so they could replay the game in their minds and fix their individual shortcomings. Game plan on Monday, practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, and light walk-throughs on Thursday travel on Friday, and have fun playing on Saturday.

We are still going bowling this year. That beats the last eight years by a mile.

Our offensive line is made up of four star and high three star athletes most with years of experience. The fact that they are underperforming has to be due to coaching and/or game planning. I'll choose game planning.

Our wide receivers are not good blockers. Why have plays that require them to block? Why have wide receivers who can't block for the plays you want to call? Why can't our receivers get separation? They have great speed and quickness, but can't get open???

I'm not trying to start a quarterback controversy, but why not put HH in for a series or two in order to change the momentum of the game? In order to give Dylan a chance to clear his head?

Just ramblin.

HH should be starting from now on. If he doesn't work out next man up because DR ain't getting it done
