Wow...FSU just fired Willie Taggert after less than two seasons/21 games.

gosh, they didn't even give him two years. why not at least wait until the year is over and do a private search...
Taggart inherited a mess similar to the one we’re dealing with. Jimbo trashed that place, set it ablaze, and then hit the road for a bigger paycheck. Taggart was left playing cleanup. The sad reality is that some FSU alums were displeased with having a black head coach. They’ve had it out for him since he arrived.
Where do you find race has anything to do with his firing? Seems like speculation and a typical excuse regarding black coaches. Perhaps Taggart done something wrong that the school is keeping private.
I’ve followed FSU football since the days of Peter Tom Willis and keep an eye on what’s going on there. Some of the stuff said and posted online has been unbelievable. He may have been over his head, but never had a chance.
dont they negotiate the payout? I know DONU paid Bo and Siling Mike but I believe that is not the norm and Bo had to wait for his monthly stipend
VS, as you alluded to I think they can negotiate how and when it is paid out but I think if it's advantageous to the outgoing coach he will stick to the contract. That's mostly speculation though. Most likely a case by case situation.
Regardless, that's one hell of an unemployment check.
Makes me wonder what went on internally we are not privy to. That's all I can think of to fire a guy after a year and a half. Sure, his team's are struggling but no worse then our beloved huskers....and scott frost sure as he'll ain't going anywhere...
Firing a coach midway through his second season is bats**t crazy to the extreme. The only things that explain such idiocy are:
1) FSU is a southern school and Taggert is Black; and
2) Their delusional AD wanted to be in a position to court Urban Meyer.
I assume the firing was done to address an immediate need to "do something". More important than losing recruits would be the boosters of substance issuing a private "we are pulling our support" to the University.......maybe part of that is racial - more likely he was never a good fit there and started out on shaky ground day 1. I don't know the specifics but it felt that way to me - that FSU and Taggert were never on the same page.
Whatever his buyout is - he'll get another job - probably for less $$ - but that salary gets taken right out of the buyout money. Unlike Bo and Riley - Taggert is still employable at the D1 level for real $$. BC took alot of crap for messing up in Lincoln....but he was employed immediately in the NFL as an oline coach and OC (and now acting HC for Washington).
Not sure Urbie/FSU is in the cards (they will make a run at it - but there is nothing indicating FSU was in contact before the firing and I don't see Urbie going back to the state of Florida to coach). They would not have done this unless they have a pretty decent idea of what the short list looks like and that they have enough $$$ to pay the buyout AND hire a big money coach.

THEY will eat Fleck alive, culture shock. Bob Stoops? Lol he's retired. I don't care who they get really. Taggert got what he deserved for his Lane Kiffin act at Oregon.
I have always looked at the firing of Turner Gill at Kansas as their hatred of the Christian Conservative culture he brought with him. I have heard some say it was race as well but I have evidence for neither. Just internet chatter. I would hope colleges are not so weak kneed to cave to such ignorance.
