Super Official Nebraska vs Ohio Game Week Thread.

Hopefully, we learn nothing at all Saturday. If we win easy with a vanilla offense and basic defense, it's as it should be. We should just out-athlete 'em across the board. Our size, strength, and speed should overwhelm them.
The only thing we should learn is were we prepared for the first game of the season. Low penalties, did people know their assignments, were we quick but unrushed? I hope so.
I hope Doc's prediction is accurate and we get a complete blowout.
I've never been a fan of a bernilla offense and defense because of a lesser opponent. Play the game and call plays with the intent to win and win convincingly. If a coach calls a bernilla game plan and the game remains competitive into the second half that's when sphincters start to tighten. Get meaningful reps against lessers and you will be better prepared for the conference slate. If Coach Matt runs a bernilla game plan against the first three opponents, it will not be that easy to flip a switch when it really matters. The way I see it if you show some wrinkles early your future opponents will have more to prepare for.

Chambliss is not only a great player but clearly one sharp cookie who has helped his teammates adjust to their new scheme. If you haven't listened to one of his pressers, I would encourage you to do so before Saturday.
Listening to Damon Benning's sit-down with Kade Pietrzak and Dawson Merritt was also encouraging. I don't want to curse anyone so I'll leave my hype to myself :ashamed0001: But Dawson has so much potential.

I ordered a cimbermon game plan, dambit.

As ever, I'm ready to believe.

But my gut tells me it'll be a bumpy game, and we win by a closer margin than anyone would like.

Worst part would be if seeds of uncertainty get planted.

Hope I am, and won't shock me if I am, wrong. Mrs HV [says] I typically am...

I expect us to win handily---but I shouldn't be talking since I thought we'd beat Cincy by a couple TDs last year.

But Ohio isn't Cincinnati.

Single Digit Jerseys
I'm blown away that single digits were handed out a day ago and nobody has said anything yet. While the "official" announcement is going to be before the game tomorrow (seems a little weird to me), I've heard the rumors regarding who got them.

The names I heard were:
Offense: WR Barney and Swiss blade Bonner (keeping theirs from last year); C Evans (OL can't take one); WR Hunter (new); WR Gilmer (new); TE Lindenmeyer (new); and Calandrea (offered one but is sticking with #10).
Defense: Front line: Linhardt, and Whittington; Rush end Anthony Jones; Linebacker Chambliss (this year's # 0) and Secondary, Marshall, Conn, McDougle, and Donovan Jones. AND special teams standout, Rowan Mangini

Shavers and Van Poppel did not keep their single digits from last year. 13 were handed out in total.

I don't want to curtail the game plan because of the abilities of our opponent, but I would like to work our way into the intended structure we are shooting for gradually and systematically. I want to see a team that seems to have the basics down and knows where they should be at all times. Quite honestly that might be enough for most of our games this year.......maybe all of them. I'm hearing a lot about out coaching our opponents. For the most part, I hope the major part of our coaching acumen was spent on improving tackling, blocking, and position management.

I have some doubts about how Aurich will do against P4 teams with elite talent and coaching.

But I take at least some encouragement from the game his Idaho defense played two years ago at Oregon. It was a tight contest throughout, and a game the nation expected to be 70-3 actually ended in only a 10-point loss, 24-14.

Can he stack performances like that in successive weeks of B1G play? Here's hoping...

LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!

You said you have some doubts about Aurich and then followed it up by reminding us his Idaho defense held Oregon to two TDs on the road through three quarters!!!

If he can do that with Idaho-level talent, I think we've got ourselves a winner.

I think Jason Eck being the head coach at Idaho had more to do with that outcome than Aurich as DC. Let's hope Aurich picked up some pointers on game planning and leadership while on Eck's staff!
