Super Official Nebraska vs Maryland Game Week Thread

I was looking for @QuerqueQuirky original post to "LIKE" it. As a fellow Burqueño, I can second everything she said about Locksley's tenure at UNM. I can't decide whether I disliked him more as a coach or a human being. He was horrible on both counts.

On a side note somewhat related to Locksley, we were paired with a couple of younger guys at the UNM Golf Course a few days ago and one of them was a former Lobo who played for both Locksley and Bob Davie. It was cool listening to some of his stories but one stood out as kind of humorous. He said UNM offered yoga classes to the football team and and other athletes to help with flexibility and strength. It started with very little participation but quickly grew in numbers when Coach Locks wife started giving the classes. He said she was an absolute dime. He also said the transition from Locksley to Davie was difficult for many. Davie was a real hard-ass disciplinarian, and Locks was the exact oppo.
If you want to read it, I quoted it in my post (#32). Unfortunately, she deleted it so you cannot give QuerqueQuirky's original post a like.

Thanks Uenth. And yeah, that's where I first saw it and thought "Damn, that is exactly how I felt about his time in Burque!" I wanted to LIKE her take and couldn't find it anywhere.

Yeah, I thought it was a good post. I was just empathizing with the coaches. I'm just not sure the paycheck makes it worth all the BS they take from us, the fans. Though in Frosty's case it was certainly warranted. My point was that it can be such a fishbowl that to me the money just can't be worth it. Ya gotta have really thick skin I think to coach in today's environment.

Same thing I heard about Davie. Sadly neither he nor Locksley were very successful at UNM, but it's hard to think of a GM in recent Lobo history as bad as Locksley. 2 and 26. :mecry:

Hard to see us having as much success as UCLA's defense did. Maryland's QB struggled with a wet football.

Maryland's defense can lay random hits but is an organized disaster.

It's pretty mindboggling to me that Locksley ever got another HC gig after his dismal performance for the Lobos.

But, then again, I would have never predicted that another B1G school would hire Shawn Eichorst as its Athletic Director either.

His career was resurrected as the OC for Saban at Alabama. It's clear he has a pretty good offensive mind but he is an awful leader as evidenced by his physical altercations with assistants and overall behavior with other subordinates in the athletic department. Like you, I was shocked when he was given another opportunity to lead a program, especially one in a premier conference like the B1G.

Not that DC Aurich (or anyone else for that matter) needs my .02, but if I was the Huskers DC, my plan for Maryland would be mostly base defense and use a SS (or a very fast LB) as a spy. Malik Washington is not a "running" QB in the truest sense, but he has more than enough speed and quickness to take off and run if receivers are covered downfield. So I would play coverage in the secondary spy him on every RPO, Play-Action, or Drop back and not let him ever take off and run.

I have a bad feeling about this game. NU is feeling very good about itself, and MU is in desperate need to play well. Husker nation is looking past the turtles, and they are still not good enough to do that. I hope this is not the 2026 version of the Minnesota game.
Husker nation might be looking past the Terps, but players better not get caught doing it by Coach Rhule. He's made it clear, not only doesn't he not want players looking ahead a game, but he doesn't want players to even look ahead a play. He's preaching focus in the moment......and he sounds pretty serious about it.

That's one way, but I would prefer stressing playing responsible defense. Edge rushers play to contain first and collapse the pocket. Our D can just out perform their Oline and get to the QB. Our DBs can cover for 3 seconds and see how that works out.

It's going to be an interesting game, for sure. We'll learn a lot about the team this week. Thus far, I like what I've seen and feel pretty positive about the direction we're heading. We all know things can change on a dime.
