I wasnt clear, they by big ten rule cannot go to the pinstripe debaucle I have been told. I should have gone to the F1 race in Las Vegas yesterday, at least Red Bull didnt let me down.Well if they do goto the Pinstripe Bowl I won't be going to see them play. Didn't last and will only go this year if they goto a warm weather city. So if they do goto the Pinstripe bowl they'll save me a bunch of money. At least there's that.![]()
Memorial Stadium's home field advantage is not what it used to be. Maryland, Iowa, Michigan (twice), Illinois, UCLA, and USC have proven that in the Matt Rhule Era. I fear Iowa's game plan will be exactly like Penn State. Maul Nebraska in the trenches until they surrender. Anxious to see how Nebraska responds.
I hear ya 99. But anytime we use the term "statistically" as a metric with this program it bites us in the ass. Statistically the Nebraska pass defense matched up very favorably last night with the freshman QB Grunkenmeyer that was 11/12 for 181 yards. The one good thing is, statistically, Iowa's offense sucks.
The bad things are: 1) Nebraska sucks at rush defense and 2) our defense has a tendency to make even mediocre offenses look amazing.
I'll record the game, but I might not even watch because I have a 95% feeling that we're gonna lose.

I know one person who could. Bo Pelini. Great DC (at least at Nebraska) poor HC.Buddy Ryan couldn't turn these players into a run stopper.

Bo's run defense was great with Suh and Crick in the middle. It was also great at LSU with Glen Dorsey plugging up the middle. The rest of Bo's squads run D was highly suspect. You're joking, right? Nebraska's run defense under Bo wasn't that great to begin with and Wisconsin routinely flattened us like a steamroller with their running game.
Bo’s D took a sh1t after Carl did some lines and banged a donors wife , and had to leaveBo's run defense was great with Suh and Crick in the middle. It was also great at LSU with Glen Dorsey plugging up the middle. The rest of Bo's squads run D was highly suspect.
If I'm following the discussion in this thread correctly, I gather that the genius-level of a defensive coordinator is highly coorelated with the stud-level talent of his DL.Bo's run defense was great with Suh and Crick in the middle. White's Husker teams played the run very well. But I think it had less to do with White's scheme as it did with having Ty and Nash anchoring it.I'm no defensive guru like some on here but if I remember correctly one of the concerns with the 3-3-5 when Tony White was first hired was that it didnt play the run very well. There were videos of Syracuse stopping the run pretty well but....they dont play in the B1G.
Wisconsin flattened us in the title game because they kept running the jet sweep and Baker Steinkuhler was out due to injury. They were running it up the gut link PSU was doing Saturday night. You're joking, right? Nebraska's run defense under Bo wasn't that great to begin with and Wisconsin routinely flattened us like a steamroller with their running game.
Honestly it has more to do with who you have on thw DL. We had Ty and Nash the past 2 years and they did really well. We don't have stud DLmen. In that I agree that we should (at least for the next 2 games) switch to the 4-3. And maybe even use a 5-2 on Friday to slow down Iowas run game.I'm no defensive guru like some on here but if I remember correctly one of the concerns with the 3-3-5 when Tony White was first hired was that it didnt play the run very well. There were videos of Syracuse stopping the run pretty well but....they dont play in the B1G. I dont know maybe I'm wrong about this but I think after the Iowa game we should seriously take a look at switching back to a 4-3 and then take the bowl practices and start implementing it then. Use it in the bowl game.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Did you forget how Crick tried and failed to catch Wilson, time and again in our first big game?Bo's run defense was great with Suh and Crick in the middle. It was also great at LSU with Glen Dorsey plugging up the middle. The rest of Bo's squads run D was highly suspect.

I think we should play a 5-6 defense. The back 6 would be combinations of LB and DBs depending on down and distance.
The 5-6 could also morph into a 6-5, 4-7, a 5-2-4, a 4-2-5 we could play odd, even, over, under fronts, all based on what the offensive formation is.
