Super Official Huskers vs Hoosiers Game Week Thread

Many folks seem to have good things to say about "Google me; I win" Cignetti. He must be a good coach (or portal harvester) but my opinion has been that he's an arrogant jerk. Maybe I'm wrong. Either way I'll be really happy if the Huskers end the Cignetti love affair and he gets relegated to the Dion Sanders section. GOOO BIIIIG REEEED!

I vividly remember Cignetti's comments before--and particularly AFTER--Indiana won two years ago. So I was veeeeery interested to hear what he had to say at his Monday presser.

This time around Ol' Curt was very quiet and respectful when talking about the Huskers. He said he was very impressed by what he's seen on tape.

I would imagine with a Natty in his back pocket, Cignetti realizes his team already has a big enough target on their backs without him ratcheting up his bravado. Or maybe, just maybe, he really WAS very impressed by what he saw on tape.

I don't question that Cignetti and his staff are damn good coaches. But IMHO, the current "Omigosh, Curt walks on water" fawning from CFB pundits is over-the-top.

I'm old enough to remember when NOBODY (including most Husker fans) gave Nebraska a chance in hell of beating another 'walks on water' coach, Bear Bryant, when he brought his highly-ranked team to Memorial Stadium back in 1977.

Now that I think about it, I think Husker fans were less optimistic about our chances of winning THEN than they are NOW.

Husker super fan, Will Compton, speaks for me in this week's Bussin' with the Boys CFB pick'em show.

But Will knows his popularity; he knows that Indiana is waiting to hear what he's going to say about the game for bulletin board material so he's careful not to go overboard (yet). Still, it's a really fun listen as he shares what its been like being a Husker fan for the last twenty-five years.

Will's "Husker History Lesson" begins around the 1:00 mark.

I have divided Curt's career to this point in two segments. The first is, or is nearly, done. That segment was turning a lackluster program around immediately and showing what could be done with certain circumstances in play. He did it and exceeded unbelievably.

The second, and imo, the hardest and most telling is coming up. That segment will be the ability to be a top contender year in and year out. I've caught heat for this but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Curt did not step in and start from scratch......as most coaches in the past have had to do. He has been building the last two years, and some of this year's, teams for years and years. He stepped in with a situation that was mostly unheard of in the past.....bringing most of his staff, and the best of his players with him. He also had the luxury of the portal, which he seems like a master of. He had a mature, seasoned staff and team that were all on the same page and more mature than most of his opponents. From here on out he will be on mostly even playing ground, albeit with much more nil money than most.....including us. Still, if he is playing for conference and national titles relatively often then that feat will be much more admirable for me. It's going to take a few years for my segment two to play out. But I will be watching with interest.

I'll put this in the idea fridge.

And you may find yourself living in a shot gun shack. And you may ask yourself "how did i get here?"

When i didn't here from coach matt and the Huskers i shopped my speech to all other P4 programs and found a buyer. It went astonishingly well.

And here I thought HBJ was just on one of his non-sensical rants, I had no idea he was quoting an actual CU motivational (?) speech. Gee, they have really gone off the rails.
I'll say it like this. As that speech was typed out exactly as presented, it got funnier and funnier.

Nowadays, I look in the mirror most mornings and ask myself that line from the Talking Heads song, "How did I get here?"

Today's LIVE Campus Show. FYI, I've decided to head to campus this afternoon to watch Willie C's ESPN live show from outside South Stadium. No promises but I might be able to get a photo or two to share with you guys.

PS: Happy Birthday @Korn

I've been working on this for some time. I have an impassioned plea and motivational speech for the Huskers this week. Here it is. Let me know if it inspirates you.

Do your job, and do it well
And do it with pride
You guys all have one of the most known logos in college football
Be proud of that
cuz Isureashellam
I'll tell you what, when I go home
and keep in mind fellas my family is from Canada
They know who you guys are
and football ain't like that in Canada
but they know who you are
and when I talk about y'all, scott damn
I talk about ya'll with great pride because guess what?
l don't do this for the love of the game
I do it for y'all

Now tell me, are you ready to run through a wall after hearing this? I'm hoping it gets publicated and put on a plaque right next to the horseshoe.

I might be ready. May I see the wall first?

Only way to win this game outside of Indiana forfeiting is have zero turnovers and play disciplined. Cignetti will have his boys ready to go and if they stay disciplined like they have for 2 1/2 years they will beat us badly.

It does kind of shape up this way, doesn't it?

We'll need excellent open-field tackling, throughout; great assignment discipline, throughout; accurate check downs, smart audibles, sticky receiver hands and as you say, zero turnovers.

Failing those, if we have more than 4 or 5 flags, they may eat us alive.

I'll still be rooting for Big Red, but let's be realistic...

The football is funny shaped and has been known to take funny bounces.
I'm reminded of Coach Herb and the 80 hockey team-
Now I'm paraphrasing...
"If we play them 20 times, they'll beat us 19 of those times. But not this week. This week we win."

If you want to scout some upcoming opponents, a pretty decent game tonight with Iowa and Washington. 8:00 on Fox.
