Super Official Huskers vs Hoosiers Game Week Thread

I know we'll rehash this all week but some quick thoughts.

Holding IU to 20 was good. GIving up 4 big pass plays was not - 2 for TDs....crushing. Seemed that once Conn got hurt our back end D let down. Not blaming Benning - looked more like we didn't have the calls rights - guys not in right places to me. But gal darn did we stop their run game and gave the team a chance.

All the good things that happened on offense - we still only scored 17 points. We won't win many B1G game scoring 17 - they are a good defense and I think AC10 got beat up a bit by 4th quarter. He was razor sharp to start and was not by end of game. Credit to IU to hang in and smack our QB when they could. Also - Gilmer disappeared - assuming IU did all they could to ensure he didn't take over the game.

Special teams were good - outside of the missed FG - which was huge in the final score but not why we lost. Those big pass plays just killed us.

Overall - I thought IU was the better team in the 4th quarter and the score showed that. We'll need to put on our man pants to win these games.

Lots of good things happened and we know now this is a pretty good team. This is also a team with plenty of tough games left so learn, improve and get after the Ducks. Especially the QB if it happens to be DR.

I could roast Rhule for going for it on 4th and 9 with enough time to left to have another possession - but I think he was concerned we would not get the ball back so decided not to punt......in the end we had the ball and time to put a drive together we just could not do it. But it cost us a ton of field position.

Colandrea is sure a gamer. Disappointed we could never establish a consistent running game to help him out. Really disappointed in our pass defense. The back end guys really blew it today.

A "moral victory" is what losers call losses to try to make them sound less embarrassing. This was a game we should have won. And once again we found a way to lose.

Going for it on 4th & 9 on your own side of the field with over 6 minutes left was just plan stupid. It showed panic. You punt it there and pin them as deep as you can and play defense every day of the week.

I guess Hohl must miss every kick in practice because I have no idea why Cunanan is still trotting out there. You can't miss getting easy points against good teams. In the end it was the difference.

Overall, they held up better than I thought they would.

Beat Dylan's ass next week.

More important is looking at how we played and what to work on. Honestly T.O. was more about reviewing film, grading it, working on how to improve, giving guys that played well more time......let's build on this into something better. Far from a perfect game - I could tell Cigaretti wasn't happy with how IU played either - but some of that was Nebraska imposing their will. 2 good teams cracking helmets and pads.

I was at a post wedding golf outing so I didn't see the game. Having said that, I'm sad. Clearly a game the Huskers could have won but didn't happen. They are better, just not there yet. I hope they can once make it back.aybe this year still has the possibility.

Jimbo, why do you say it wasn't Benning's fault on the td play? It looked similar to last week when he went for the ball to intercept instead of playing conservatively as a Safety.

I agree. We could have won. Didn't. But we are clearly getting better.

You know, this team could beat Oregon, and maybe Ohio State. The odds of that happening are zero, but this is a different Husker team.
Hope you are correct Ohio. All the chatter is that DR will not be starting against NU next week, due to his dismal performance today. I'm glad of that, not because I think his great arm would beat us. My issue is that the DR playing against his former teammates is a distraction that the team doesn't need, Just needs to be a regular game with no silly bs attached to it.

Did he get benched today?

Regardless of anything and a guy who golfed instead of watching Nebraska, I feel like this is a team who could win one of the next big two. Oregon isn't what I thought they would be and OSU is beatable. Just maybe

DR was horrific for 3 quarters (2 INTs and fumble - and about 40 yards total passing). So he got the hook and the back up looked better. He'll get the start unless Moore is available. DR will be riding pine and likely is heading to someplace else after this season.

tOSU is really friggin' good. They do all the stuff IU does on D and have a better offense. Will be a very tough game. Oregon may not be ranked next week.

The good news is Nebraska's next 3 opponents will probably be playing their 2nd or 3rd string Quarterbacks. Or that could be bad news.

As long as Ryan Day is their coach, you always have a chance against them.
