The portal opens soon. No doubt there must be new additions here
https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/nebraska-football-2023-scholarship-distributionI know Nebraska will lose players to the portal, the questions are: 1) how many, 2) what positions, and 3) will it be any key players?
I imagine NU will lose 10-15 players to the portal. We'd almost have to, to make roster limit requirements as we've signed in the recruiting class, and added tbrough the portal, far and above the roster limits. Now that 10-15 will probably be divided between post spring game and summer transfers out, but there is no question we'll have to lose 10-15 players to meet ncaa mandated roster size requirements.
Rhule just said Eric Fields is no longer with the team, he has already went home. Had heard some rumors about this earlier, he was not in a good headspace.
Yep. It's CFB's version of the NFL cut list.I imagine NU will lose 10-15 players to the portal. I know it says they have to be down to 85 by August but I don't even know anymore if the scholarship list means anything.https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/nebraska-football-2023-scholarship-distribution
if that is accurate it will be 15
I've wondered that myself, justino52. It'll be more expensive, but it seems to me that Rhule can push the numbers envelope as far as our NIL coffers will allow.I know it says they have to be down to 85 by August but I don't even know anymore if the scholarship list means anything.

geeee I have a hard time with the salary capsI've wondered that myself, justino52. It'll be more expensive, but it seems to me that Rhule can push the numbers envelope as far as our NIL coffers will allow.
If he's going to end up being over, all he has to do is move some players from scholie to more NIL money to compensate for it if that's what it takes to get down to the magic 85 number. Once upon a time, I know it was against NCAA rules for a player to replace an athletic scholie with an academic one. But in this 'anything goes' NIL era, I don't know how it works anymore.
The bottom line is that Coach Rhule told us we shouldn't worry about it because he knows what he's doing. That's good enough for me.![]()
To paraphrase the classic line from Blazing Saddles, "Salary caps? We don't need no stinking salary caps!"geeee I have a hard time with the salary caps
That’s surprising after Rhule talked him up this spring .
He also said he wouldn't blame any of his players if they got an offer they couldn't refuse. That’s surprising after Rhule talked him up this spring .
They are also WAY over the 85 scholarship limit too. So there is that.He also said he wouldn't blame any of his players if they got an offer they couldn't refuse.
Read that this may be a way to get rid of his scholarship but then he comes back and NIL pays his way through school. Not sure if its true or not but it may be one way around the scholarship limit. Not sure on the rules to this.
