NIL.

Good talk, but did he really say anything that we didnt already know? I dont think anyone thinks this is sustainable. Even with Mark Cubans money, it will eventually run out. Thats why players are grabbing every penny they can right now because even they know that eventually it will go away

I doubt that, honestly.

1. Human nature is to think the gravy train never stops.

And

2. Players grabbing every penny they can is happening because that's capitalism in a nutshell. Extract every cent of value from everything while you can. Who cares that this isn't sustainable and will ruin not only the sport and everything else. Who cares because we're maximizing profits right now.

Water finds its own level. The transfer portal (along with NIL) will fluctuate quite a bit over the next few years but will soon settle into a consistent animal.
A couple things that will be noted this year,
The situation in Colorado- scholarship athletes bluntly told to get out. While in the past, some players were informed they weren't likely to be a part of future plans and they may want to explore other options, what Coach Prime said to his team at introductions points to a different, cold, relationship.
There are going to be more D1 athletes entering the portal than will be picked up by another D1 school. There is a risk to entering the portal and stories of athletes that shot themselves in the foot will come out and be a caution.
NIL money will soon start being multi-year based. Collectives will see that getting a recruit to a school does no good if the athlete leaves after being developed. They will soon figure out how to tie them to the school long term.

I posted the above over 3 years ago. Time has flown by and we are no nearer to regulating NIL. It may even be worse. As I said above, I thought it would be sorted out by now, but we're heading towards another season and it's starting to look like there will not be any meaningful regulation.
Doubt has crept into my mind today that it will ever make sense and College Football may just implode. I'm sad. Discouraged and sad.

I cannot, with mere words, convey just how much I absolutely HATE this.
Lol, the Woodside Tigers of Louisiana! Reminds me of rec league slow pitch softball days, with Dukes Barber Shop plastered on the front of our shirts! Every day brings me closer and closer to throwing in the towel. College sports have become a sh!tshow.

Because you ABSOLUTELY know that once this corporate patch goes on, other companies will want their patch on the jersey. And when there is no more space on the jersey, they'll start putting them on the pants. How does a patch for Juicy Fruit gum across a player's a^^ sound? How about Fairbury Hotdogs having a patch over the crotch? Of course this sounds like hyperbole, but as we have seen with NIL, what started as one idea has morphed into a greedfest free for all.
