Mike Dawson replacement

Am I the only one wondering if this move isn't in our best interests? I was kind of disappointed that what I thought were some pretty talented guys, at least decent, didn't perform all that well last year.

Two part time NTs, one injured, the other very young, having others with the wrong body types, or, still not shaped right.
The big boys take time, we give our O line two years if we can, its no different with D line players that have to reshape their bodies.
I'm expecting much better play from our D line this year, no matter the coach, with scheme and SnC the big differences, plus just another year older.
Your departing coach isnt a shlump when gets hired back into the nfl, despite some peoples minds that businesses just blow money.

I think our DL did underperform, but like I have mentioned before, how do you tell it's not lingering effects of poor technique/habits, or no technique, learned under the previous staff? Especially when they weren't given any individual development time with their position coach under Riley......I was expecting the DL to take a jump this year, so let's hope the new coach can get to work very soon, and start building a nasty DL.....

Benning said the other day, he saw JP out on the field half hour after practice teaching technique to those guys because of all the crap they went through in practice, spending all their time under diacos system, while every coach had to learn it while trying to teach technique, and technique had no time.
Not having to lift was the real problem under MR, I even remember how upset Cav was when Farmer busted tail to get to wrestling weight.
But Cavs actual response later was he thought it was a good idea, but it obviously wasnt somebodies good idea.
When you have ten ropes and one team, and each leader is handing out their ropes, no ones pulling together.

It has been awful quiet. I haven't heard any names in the rumor mill other than some guesses. That is the way a search should go but it takes the spin out of it. I hope they take their time and do it right.

For all we know he was fired or mutual.

On this cold, snowy Saturday here in Lincoln, I've been trying to see if I could surf the web get an inkling of where our DL Coach search may be heading.

While I haven't found much on the interwebs, I was struck by how many fans are online promoting former Husker players who have little or no college football coaching experience.

I have zero insider information but I would bet the farm that our new DL coach will have serious coaching experience. If you look at Scott's first staff, everyone of them had substantial college coaching experience. It was clear that Barrett Ruud wanted to coach for Frost from the beginning but Scott had him 'earn his spurs' as an assistant to an assistant coach (i.e. quality control coach) before he promoted him here at Nebraska.

If I had to take an educated guess right now, my pick would be Jerry Montgomery. The trouble with this pick is that he may be making more as the DL coach at Green Bay than we can pay him here. We could afford to pay him more but his salary might upset the apple cart with the other coaches.

I don't think he did.
Here is a quote from the Lincoln Journal.
Like each of Nebraska's assistant coaches, Dawson had recently been offered a one-year extension through Dec. 30, 2020. He signed his term letter Jan. 19. His salary was set to stay at $475,000.

I think the position coach pay an NU is comparable to NFL position coach pay. Dawson was making nearly a half mill.
