I got a chuckle out of PD's comment in another thread but looking at the new pricing map, it's very appropriate to put here: It sure looks like the University's definition of an "Elite" fan in 2027 involves how much money you're willing to fork over for tickets.
I guess it's a sign of the times, but I see this as the end of an era. I realize how extremely lucky I have been able to wrap my fandom around the gameday experience for so many doggone years. I've attended every home game from 1969 to mid-season 1987 and from 2002 till now. (With a whole bunch of one gamers and away games in there too.) But going forward, that kind of fandom is going to be limited to people with the ability -- and willingness -- to fork over serious money every year for season tickets. For most average fans, attending a game is more likely to be a "once-every-year or two or more" kind of deal.
The last few years I've had serious debates with myself whether to keep my tickets. I don't know what it is...the walk, the cement steps, or the inhumanly tight-together, hardwood seats, but I return home after every game feeling like I've gone through a 15-round prize fight. The extra moola will give me added pause--especially when I can watch the Huskers 'up close and personal' on my flat screen TV at home.
But up through this year, I've given in. No matter how many times I've experienced it, I'm a sentimental sap for all the pregame pageantry surrounding a Husker gameday. There truly is no place like Nebraska.
