Huskers Rhule

Excellent post, DrFumble and I believe I can summarize everything you said with one statement: In all of his past coaching stops, he's made mistakes. However, he's learned from all of those mistakes and we here at Nebraska are now on the beneficial receiving end of that experience. He's looked at things that didn't work and he's either fixed it, or got rid of it.

There are a lot of reasons to not like Trev Alberts, but his hiring of Matt Rhule may just be Nebraska's, as a program, saving grace.
Well, you know what they say about blind squirrels and acorns!;)

One more observation going into Rhule Year 3 is the coaches’ emphasis on size. We tend to focus on the speedy guys like Barney (and there’s nothing wrong with that.) But IMO the overall team looks bigger than they have in ages.

Obviously, it all comes down to how they perform, but our OLs and DLs all LOOK like warriors now. Nothing against all the scrappy smaller guys we’ve had over the years. But I feel more confident when they all line up looking like Aaron Taylor did back in the day.

Some of you might wonder what I’m doing posting here rather than start a new thread.

Part of it is following the trend setters. If Uenth is still posting in the Trev’s Leaving thread a year after he’s long gone, I can post in this old classic from ATX that’s “all about Matt Rhule.”

I can’t put my finger on why but I find it comforting to post in a thread that’s seventysome pages long. :)

You are correct my intention with this thread was for it to be a place that was more centered on Rhule related news rather than just news about the program, thank you for keeping it alive! Let's hope this thread goes 7000 pages!

Welp, I was going to desecrate a thread so I decided it should be our former AD, I didn't want to take a pertinent thread off topic with the travails of losing Joe and the adventures of finding Arlo. .

I agree, my friend. In fact, there’s been some especially great Rhule interviews posted this past year on other threads (which is perfectly fine btw) that I wished we’d have saved here.

if Coach has the kind of season I’m expecting, you can rest assured that this thread you started back in November 2022 about some former pro coach we might be looking at named Matt Rhule will continue to be posted to for a long time to come.

Is there a page limit on threads? I ask that because back in the HuskerPedia days, we had one thread that reached over 100 pages. They had to clip it because it just got too long (think it was slowing the entire system down due to its length. They'd let it go, clip it, it would grow again, get clipped. Don't know how long that thread existed in one form or another.

That is a great question! Hopefully if there is a limit the mods can alert us so once we approach it we can lock the thread to preserve it in it's entirety. We can start a "Huskers Still Rhule" thread to keep it going LOL.

We’ll find out. :)

In my mind, this is the place for Rhule’s high-profile, national interviews we see each year (of which there are many because all the national pundits love him AND he’s always a great interview for them.)

One point of clarification: When FailFrost was the HC, Nebraska's players had the size. They definitely looked the part, but there's a reason opposing coaches and teams referred to Nebraska as "The All Bus Team." They looked the part but on film they saw that if things went a little south, the team would panic and crack. So yes, looking the part is nice, but being able to go out on the field and get the job done is what truly counts. So to your point, yes Nebraska is continuing to get size, but Coach Rhule has brought toughness and a don't quit attitude.

As long as the last 6000 pages aren’t about why he left to go to Penn State or why he was ultimately fired then sparking further Solich, Callahan, Bo, Riley, and Frost rants.
