Huskers Rhule

One of the things Sam and Tom mentioned was the fact that Coach Rhule refused to answer Sam's question about who is going to coach them. He said---rightly---that today should be all about the new players.

Tom said the same thing I was thinking at the time. Rhule's non-answer WAS an answer: Me thinks we're getting a QB position coach from the NFL come sometime in January.

Oh we are. When that is? No one knows but I can tell you this, no way we get Raiola with Satterfield coaching QBs.

If anybody still had doubts about Rhule and his staff having a plan and being able to actually work that plan to resurrect the Edmund Fitzgerald Cornhuskers, today puts that to rest. He deftly navigated choppy waters around the QB room: McCord, the return of Raiola, full transparency with Purdy and Sims.

A pro's pro. We are in very good hands.

I heard Rhule say explicitly we DID NOT offer any QBs in the portal a scholarship. Given how much McCord was 100% coming to Nebraska I wonder if there is some splitting hairs there on what an "offer" is - but in the end no doubt McCord not coming was in part Rhule's decision.

Rhule's decision to,

"Go with the freshman QBs and build the team through recruiting and development."

is a strategic decision that in some ways defies the current train of thought. The current train of thought is take the Portal guy, even if he has only one year, to zee if you can win right now. But Coach Rhule bucked that trend and only time will tell if this was a good or bad decision. Then again, Coach Rhule has 7 base years left on his contract so rolling the dice and going with the Freshmen might not be as crazy as it looks.

Well Scotch Frost started Adrian Martinez as a True Frosh and had no real competition to take the job from him.

I do believe Kaelin will push Raiola. Not that Raiola needs any pushing.

“Dieon Sanders is demonstrably better than Matt Rhule. Colorado is 2-0 and we're 0-2. We're making the same bone-headed mistakes we've been making the last 5 years. Colorado is dramatically improved. Sanders instills discipline and effort into his team. Urban Meyer noticed it when visiting Colorado. Meanwhile, we're 0-2, we have a QB who is a turnover machine and a coaching staff who (right now) won't bench Sims because FU that's why.

Matt Rhule better pull his f*ing head out of his a** and permanently bench Sims. But I know he won't do that because f*** winning, Rhule would rather go 0-12 than admit he made a mistake in bis evaluation of Sims.”

After everything, would you trade MR for Neon Dieon

What got me thinking about this was looking at the Rivals team ranking— Dieon only signed five players on Wednesday— has three more “commitments “ that are unsigned. You can’t build a program that way

The Dieon experiment will have crashed and burned by this time next year. Good riddance

You illustrate a good point, RSR. I understand that after painful losses (like the CU game) many of us had some Serious Anger Issues. ;) :)

I've been known to yell profanities at my TV set but I've tried to avoid venting online. I don't know (and don't care) who you quoted. But its a good example of how we can look foolish when you jump online and make "Fire Rhule"-type rants.

The thing about message boards is that our posts live on and create a history. Heat of the moment posts have a way of making the poster look stupid over time (like the one RSR quoted ^^^^ above.)

Damn. Herbstreit must have been having a rough day to say that on national TV!

Off the top of my head I have narrowed the quote down to 4 potential candidates. I'll refrain from doing any further research because we all handle stress differently. Some are hard wired to be a boiling cauldron of hot liquid magma. Which reminds me, have you ever stood on the 15th tee box thinking "damn if I can play these last 4 holes +2 or better I can break 80 today!" Then proceed to snap hook your drive OB. But I digress. Magma has been one of my favorite words to say ever since Austin Powers. Magma...magma... with emphasis on the separation between the two syllables.

I was never in favor of firing the head coach but on the other hand if he wanted to strangle Satterfield, I would tackle him to the ground for Matt

Looks to me like Neon is planning on building a team from the portal.
