He's back

So Frost just now realized the problem was nearly his entire offensive coaching staff? There might be one more guy there that hasn't lived up to the job title.

Unfair to Lubbick.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Lubick decided to walk rather than being forced out. I think he came out of retirement for the gig, and that cleaning house gave him a chance to step aside.

Only at Nebraska can a coach post 4 consecutive losing seasons and NOT get fired. Good times.

Wow, I didn't expect this news now. Thought after the Iowa game. I wanted Frost gone, but with these changes I will give him another year. How will the changes workout, I don't know. But I am willing to wait and see.

So if the offensive coaches, minus Frost are gone "effective immediately" what does that mean? Is Frost going to coach all the positions? <--- More a rhetorical question. Are they bringing in a new staff to coach the remaining two games? Are the current coaches going to coach out the remainder of the season? Gawd that'd be awkward.

I have stated here that I would have fired Frost after the Minnesota loss, but since all we're getting is a re-vamped offensive staff, I guess that will have to suffice. The "big brains" have spoken. And like I said in re: the Ted Carter thread...

When Carter said, "No decision has been made..." I chimed in, Translation: A decision has been made.

Again, not the one I wanted, but f it, support the decision and see how this plays out.

Links all say they are gone, effective immediately. So SF has about 10 days to get a new offensive staff hired and in place.

Whatevs!

I think in the past coaches may have thought NU would be too quick to fire them and therefore they would not be interested in coming here. TA could be trying to show potential top notch coaches down the road that NU will commit to them if they come here.

The one thing it shows me is that he isn't quite as damn stubborn as rumors tell us. If he was, he would have told Trev that everything was falling into place quite nicely and we "just need to hang in there a bit longer".

I find that a little encouraging.

Okay... I'll bite. What are some other P5 schools where a coach has had 4 losing seasons and been retained for a 5th?

I am legit asking, not trying to be a smart a**.
It happens a lot actually. But not at schools that have a sense of identity tied to their football team. Oregon State for instance has done it with MANY coaches, and Mike Riley isn’t one of them.

Actually, OSU’s current coach is in year 4 without a winning season, but is currently 5-4 and a future TBD.

Lovie Smith at Illinois (fired in his 5th season), the guy prior to the current Indiana coach (5 seasons), and SF are the only recent B1G examples.

So Scott Frost was more similar to Oregon St than Mike Riley was to Oregon St????? ;););););)

Jonathan Smith, their current coach, just made coaching changes on his staff as well.

OWH had an editorial advocating retention.

It likely won't sway those who had their opinions firmly set against that approach.

But it does state a sound basis, and makes it clear that reasonable minds can differ on the topic.

No one has a crystal ball. We may end up well. Some intelligent people apparently believe so.

Let's go. GBR

He's got a year to prove that Trev made the correct decision. The ball is entirely in Scott's court. At least that's how I view it.

Frost has to make some very good hires that show results fairly quickly. The schedule is supposedly easier and now hopefully we hear from other teams about how they had to throw out half the playbook because the offense came out in sets they hadn't practiced for. So Nebraska should have the advantage early next season.

Yeah, I don't get that whole easier schedule crap. We got beat by most of the same teams we're facing next year. Lose OSU and gain Rutgers and Indiana. Should be losing another team but I'm feeling too lazy to line by line it. Anyway, if nothing changes we can lose to all of those teams next year as easily as we lost to them this year.
