Off the field, he was a class act. Like you, I was never a fan of the WCO but he was --
and still is -- a good NFL coach.
College coach? At a school like Nebraska? Not so much.
Mrs Fumble and I had a chance to spend a Sunday afternoon with Zac and his then-GF, now wife, at an event in the spring following his senior year.
True Story: I asked him what he planned to do next and he responded that he didn't know yet. Being the big-mouthed blowhard I am, I told him he should think about getting into coaching. He responded politely with something like yeah, he might think about it.
I didn't realize until years later that his attractive GF, Sarah, was
the daughter of Mike Sherman who was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers at the time. When Sherman was hired by Texas A&M, Zac began his coaching career there as a grad assistant for his new father-in-law in 2008.
As much as I'd like to take credit for putting that coaching seed in his head, I suspect Zac could've been thinking about coaching long before my casual comment.
