Frost To Alabama?

Off the field, he was a class act. Like you, I was never a fan of the WCO but he was -- and still is -- a good NFL coach. College coach? At a school like Nebraska? Not so much.
Mrs Fumble and I had a chance to spend a Sunday afternoon with Zac and his then-GF, now wife, at an event in the spring following his senior year.

True Story: I asked him what he planned to do next and he responded that he didn't know yet. Being the big-mouthed blowhard I am, I told him he should think about getting into coaching. He responded politely with something like yeah, he might think about it.

I didn't realize until years later that his attractive GF, Sarah, was the daughter of Mike Sherman who was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers at the time. When Sherman was hired by Texas A&M, Zac began his coaching career there as a grad assistant for his new father-in-law in 2008.

As much as I'd like to take credit for putting that coaching seed in his head, I suspect Zac could've been thinking about coaching long before my casual comment. :)
So now when Fumble watches Zac Taylor coach the Bengals in the NFL playoffs....he remembers....I am responsible for this and laughs with himself gleefully.

And Mrs Fumble shakes her head and rolls her eyes.
Frost nerds to find something to do other than coaching. He's that bad.
With Joe Burrows as his QB, he's as close to a lifetime contract as it gets in the NFL.

You are an aspiring arthur DrF. Sometimes you need to manipulate the truth to make for a better story. Let's try this...

My wife and I spent an afternoon with Zac and GF the spring following his senior year. Poor guy was in a dead end job selling commercial real estate. I could sense that he was looking for more. He was a lost soul. Anyhow I says to him at one point I says "Zac, your knowledge of the game is obvious to me. Have you ever considered coaching? Right then I saw a gleam in his eyes and a light bulb appeared above his head and he said to me he said "I have never given it any thought Doctor Fumblerooski. Thank you so much for planting the seed!" The rest is history. A star was born. To this day Zac calls every Monday morning after games to chat and thank me for steering him in the right direction.

A much better read, IMHO!

In my opinion-
Scott Frost's plan for leadership seemed to be based on a "Cult of Personality". Once the veneer of magic is gone, he had very little substance. He will now have to rebuild his career based on knowledge of the game and hard work. Is he ready for that? His time at Nebraska the past 5 years may have broken him.

To some degree, I've often wondered if that doesn't come with a winning QB as a coach. That "Top Gun" ego.

The track record of successful QB's who went on to be great coaches, other than Harbaugh, isn't particularly stellar. Former NFL quarterbacks as head coaches | PRO FOOTBALL DALY

Devaney was an end, Osborne was a small-time QB and receiver, Swinney a receiver, Saban a DB in college... and none of them had stellar playing careers.

FWIW

Agreed. The only other exception I can think of is Steve Spurrier

He's a coach, if you didn't know his background, you'd never guess that he might have been one of the most purely gifted athletes to ever become a coach. And football was likely the least of his talents.

I still remember his quip about FSU... Free Shoes University

Yeah, that's a classic. I never refer to them as FSU - always Free Shoes U. Too damn funny.

I also refer to Spurrier as visor boy, for obvious reasons from his coaching days. i thought he was going to have apoplexy the year we cleaned their clocks. His pained expressions were almost better than our beating them. Almost better.

I had a friend then whose hub was an alum of Florida. She told me a few days later that her hub was so po'd during the game that he systematically broke every one of their kids toys that was in their tv room. We'd score, bam, he'd break another toy. They would have to kick, bam, he'd break another toy. She finally wised up and moved the remainder of their kids toys into another room.:happy0064: Ah, memories!!!
