In a YouTube video Sean Callahan and Steve Sipple specualte on an article they read/saw where there is some conjecture about Frost becoming Nick Saban's OC.

First, never say never.

Second, in my opinion that would be the worst hire Saban could ever make.

Third, I have no idea what metrics Saban is looking for, but Frost's offenses were predictable. Even average DCs with even mediocre defenses were able to stymie Frost.

Finally, I have no idea if Frost actually will end up at Bama, but one thing I do know, Frost thinks Nebraaka fans are tough on the team? He ain't seen nothing yet. Here at Nebraska we take our football seriously, but Alabama, the SEC? A completely different level of fanaticism.

Never will that happen.
I saw a link to Omaha Weird Harold, right around the time of the "bowl" game Frost coached, that said he and family had purchased new digs in Phoenix. Other than that it has been radio silence from camp Frost.

I cannot imagine that he would want to be an OC after 2 gigs as a HC. Time well tell.

Edit:

here's a link about the new digs:

Nebraska Football: Scott Frost makes massive Arizona investment

He can still be Saban's OC and have an off-season home in Phoenix but sheesh!

Alabama has an abundance of riches talent-wise. I’m sure SF will do okay if across the board his O has more talent than the D it’s facing. Then again, so could a lot of coaches.

I would love to be a fly in the milk for this conversation.

Saban on the field, Frost in the booth...

Saban- What the hell is going on up there? We need to start generating some offense NOW!

Frost- I'm afraid they have us bamboozled Lil Nickey. We were NOT expecting them to come out in a 4-man front. I just took half of our playbook and gave it to the analyst in charge of the paper shredder.

Yeah that quote by Frost is going to never NOT be funny.

About time someone ruined Alabama. I'm tired of reading and seeing them in the Top 2.

You know what? After thinking about this, I hope Saban does hire Frost. I know it'll probably never happen, but damn I would love to see the eventual train wreck.

Well, I will be the ass I guess, frost has proven himself. Just not as a headman . He ****** up at NU. ( was a major backer till last season…make or break and make didn’t happen) but as a oc he has been good. I think the over all major program was to much for him ( especially at home ) i dont think bama will be his next step but he will be a oc some place big at some time. I dont hate the man , just believe ( hindsight being 20/20 ) that he needs more seasoning, and less pickling

I really cannot think of a serious poster here who didn't want Frost to succeed. Some of us fell off the bandwagon before others but eventually I think everyone recognized it was the only thing AD TA could do under the circumstances (though I might have held out another 8 days but that's just me).

Having fallen off the bandwagon relatively early, let me just say that if Frost had righted the ship I would have been over the moon and the early Baby Poop would have been water under the bridge.

I think Frost as a consultant on Saban's staff is way more likely than OC. Rehab his career. He could get an OC job but it won't be for a major college power like Bama.

....but as a oc he has been good.
I agree with RED ED. You can't deny his OC credentials are strong.

What Rhule has done in his short time here is showing fans the value of having a genuine HEAD coach who has a broad, big-picture vision for the program. The different (IMHO) is like night and day.
  • Frank? Maybe he became one later at Ohio, but not Nebraska.
  • Billie? He was a good offensive coordinator disguised as a HC.
  • Bo? He was a good defensive coordinator disguised as a HC.
  • Mike? Maybe he was one back in his prime, but not at Nebraska. He never gave fans any indication he understood Big Ten football.
  • Scott? Another good offensive coordinator disguised as a HC. As the head man at a program like Nebraska, he was in way over his head.

I agree with all of that except Billie . I think he was absolutely terrible. Some say great OL coach in the NFL . That might be true but I didn’t care about the NFL Billie was the LOL coach to me and way to arrogant

I defended BC through most of his tenure so here I go again. (Mrjfb should get a kick out of this.) :)

After Pederson fired Solich, pity whatever poor sap who SP would end up hiring. Most anybody he would eventually scramble to end up with after The Most Embarrassing Public Search Ever, was to incur the wrath of Husker Nation.

BC did some incredibly stupid things (too numerous to list here) as our coach but the "absolutely horrible" tag fits Scott Frost, not Bill Callahan. Billie is a perfect example of a guy who lived to coach his beloved West Coast Offense. In essence, he was our OC masquerading as a HC. He hired his buddy, Keven Cosgrove, run the defense and focused on his offense.

After a horrendous start where he force fed his WCO to a group of guys built for an RPO style of play, he turned things around. In 2006, Zac Taylor established new all-time school records in passing and passing TDs and was the Big XII Offensive Player of the Year. And Cosgrove and the defensive coaches weren't half-bad --- until the bottom fell out in 2007. (In some ways, Cosgrove's free-fall was eerily similar to what happened early this past year with Chins.)

Listen, I'm not opining we should've kept him. TO did the right thing--especially when BC ended his final season with a giant "FU" chip on his shoulder. I'm just saying that I'd rank Cally ahead of Frost and Smiling Mike and behind Bo in my ranking of our failed Husker HCs of this Century category. :)

That’s where the numbers would put him

I met Cally at 2 of the 4 "Football 101's" that were held during Cally's tenure as HC. In person, in that particular environment, Cally was mesmerizing. I forget what the attendance numbers were (a lot -- mostly football widows who wanted to understand what possessed their husbands on the weekends). There were quite a few women who rivaled their husbands' passion for all things Husker and were "N" for a Husker event. It was kind of interesting, the first 3 years, it wasn't open to males and the last year, the event was open to anyone who would pony up the $$$'s (proceeds benefited breast cancer, cause of Cally's mother's death). Less than a dozen men braved the mostly female attendees.

At any rate, Cally was a hell of a speaker and was very motivating. I think about 99.9% of the room was ready to suit up and play on any given Saturday for the Huskers. I'm not a fan of the WCO or a passing offense but I became a Cally fan simply because of those Football 101's. I really wish the powers that be would bring something similar back. It was a great fundraiser, we had an absolute blast attending them and we got to rub elbows with the staff and some of the players. Somewhere I still have my picture taken with Zac Taylor at one of the 101's.

I should also mention that I met the devil at one of those sessions, aka Pedey. Shook his hand and had a long conversation with him. He was very personable as well.

Off the field, he was a class act. Like you, I was never a fan of the WCO but he was -- and still is -- a good NFL coach. College coach? At a school like Nebraska? Not so much.

Mrs Fumble and I had a chance to spend a Sunday afternoon with Zac and his then-GF, now wife, at an event in the spring following his senior year.

True Story: I asked him what he planned to do next and he responded that he didn't know yet. Being the big-mouthed blowhard I am, I told him he should think about getting into coaching. He responded politely with something like yeah, he might think about it.

I didn't realize until years later that his attractive GF, Sarah, was the daughter of Mike Sherman who was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers at the time. When Sherman was hired by Texas A&M, Zac began his coaching career there as a grad assistant for his new father-in-law in 2008.

As much as I'd like to take credit for putting that coaching seed in his head, I suspect Zac could've been thinking about coaching long before my casual comment. :)
