Two things, first you listed a nice list of where we can start blame if we want. While the media might shape some opinion, those in power in our various government offices and departments are the ones to shape policy. They are the ones we elect to protect us. The media is not blameless. They have allowed themselves to reduce staff that had at least some ability to understand complex topics. Like science editors and reporters that had some background in said subjects. Whether you believe this pandemic is a hoax or is real and a disaster, you an look at local, state and federal government and decide where the blame lies. From letting the wrong messaging get out that made it look like it was bad and it wasn't to not taking it seriously and blowing the response. Either way and anything in between can be placed at the feet of the government.

Second thing:

This highlighted sentences is just ... I better not state what I really thing of this because I don't want to get into a fight. Again First Amendment.... who is going to be appointed to determine this??? I will volunteer to determine such things, but some may not like what I decide. ;)

Nicely done. This response is a much better articulation of a position, instead of a short, dismissive, smart ass quip. :D And, for the record, I think you make some good points. As far as the media, as you mention, who gets to determine "the facts"? It's a dilemma, for sure. I'm pretty sure the 1st amendment was placed in the constitution to ensure the people have a way to stay informed about what is actually going on, free from gov't shutting them down. When the media knowingly publishes lies, reports "selective" facts, drives a certain agenda exclusively, they have betrayed the constitutional mission they were entrusted with. As a result of this, they then move more towards functioning as a propaganda arm instead of helping the citizens to be diligent about their government....... I would much prefer to be given a balanced view of "the facts" instead of moving towards the Soviet Union or "Baghdad Bob" approach.... :) And, just as the 1st amendment guarantee limits what can be done in restricting certain freedoms of the press, the rest of the constitution limits what can be done in restricting the freedom of citizens in other areas, whether it be quarantine, commerce, etc, etc. even if a certain person thinks they know exactly what needs to be done.....

Pardon me if I'm a tad on the bitchy side this morning. Bathroom reno started. Only toilet is downstairs until they're done. No problem for me as I spend most of my waking hours down stairs in Sew & Sew anyway but hub has a hard time with the stairs. I did buy a cheap plastic urinal this morning to limit the number of trips he has to make. Also no shower until this is done. I'm thrilled about the concept of washing my hair in the tub. Yikes!

I know I'll be over the moon once they're done and we have a bathroom that's all fresh and fancied up a tad but right now it all blows large chunks!

Plus have a back ache from hell. Sure it's just stress from the reno but it all adds up. And, yes, Ricketts is a tool. I don't think you are jarhead but I'm pretty sure you and I are on opposite sides of the COVID-19 stuff.

Well, I just started the count down to the colonoscopy tomorrow morning, so if SOC goes in the downstairs bathroom the rest of the day, you may not hear from him for awhile.

You know what, I think after this is all done we need to have an after action report. It needs to look at the virus from a scientific perspective and be fully peer reviewed by the best minds in the fields of science that would need to look at this. Then the response from federal, state and local levels all the way down to the local health departments and emergency management departments and hospitals and so forth. This will allow a 20/20 look at this event and help create new ways to deal with this kind of event and new technology to help mitigate it. Honestly I don't know what they would find but with the ability to look back at it we might gain some significant knowledge. I think Crazyhole might agree with this and others on here. Working to do what we can to mitigate the seasonal flu and other "viruses" can gain some knowledge by what has and has not worked here.

One thing that has not worked. We had no Winston Churchill type to point us in a direction and got the whole country to move in that direction together as a unified team. I don't care if you wanted less or more restrictions, that is immaterial. There has been no leadership at any level of government that has been able to have everyone on the same page. That lack of common cause would not have won us World War II and it has caused this pandemic response to be all over the place. Hell I could not get Toilet paper for a while. WTF. It is just some damn paper. :bash:. Last I knew the State of Nebraska was sending non approved masks out to local government. The state's response was "well this is what we have..."

Too many lawyers for their to be a cohesive approach to anything anymore. Too many people that look at the one letter initial at the end of someone's name before they decide what they believe and how they want to react. Winston Churchill is now viewed as a racist and that things he did need to now be viewed as "white privilege". Those times and places and actions and reactions and people are long gone. We spend too much time worrying about what description to use for someone than how to solve simple problems much less a pandemic. We don't live in a place where leadership could say here is what we are doing, suck it up. Nope, that is countered with legal actions and lawsuits.

We would prefer a lot of things, but any move to jail media types of any kind for their work is USSR and (insert dictator's name here) level stuff. We may disagree with them, we may beat them with a wet noodle but to go so far as jail... Yeah count me out. Our government starts levying sanctions on other country's for this kind of stuff.

Our inability to do anything together in this country will be our downfall. We are already on that road. We can blame all kinds of people but we should only look at ourselves. We all are to blame.

We did a remodel of our bathroom and it took them 7 months to finish the job,,hope you have a port a potty discount
We're not knocking out walls or anything.

New shower door, redoing the ceiling, tile on floor and 42 inches up from the floor.

Then our painter will come in and paint the rest of the walls and the ceiling.

Our electrician will come in and pull the old knob and tube and replace it with the latest. Thankfully, the last room that still has knob and tube. Glad it will all be out once the electrician is in next week.

Not a huge project, still a small room, just will look prettier.

Do have my nice bathroom downstairs but steps are hard on hubby so he will be really glad to get the toilet put back in upstairs. Poor guy!

Even if we had a Winston Churchill, and he just announced a cure for all cancers, a certain segment would have rejected him because of who he was. That's where we are at. Even Churchill was bounced from office just two months after the end of the war in Europe. Such was the gratitude of the British public.

Months ago, do you have your head in the sand? One died, one was hospitalized in critical condition. I think eventually discharged.
Are you talking about the lady that murdered her husband by making him drink fish pond cleaner?

I would agree, but in all honesty I think in less than a year there will be something else that commands our attention so this will largely be forgotten. At this point, we have basically learned everything there is to learn about how Americans, politicians, and the media will respond to a pandemic scare, and its not pretty.

I just got one question...
Where did son of charlie come from?
Never heard of him before the Corona and now he's everywhere and the final word on everything.
