Covid & Discussions of Pro/Con Football Season HERE

This is the greatest country in the world - BUT - shutdowns, testing and contract tracing worked to get COVID-19 under some form of control in the rest of the world (except India and Brazil which appear to be in the same boat we are).

When the rest of the world can address this and we can't - it is a failure of leadership and execution - and I don't mean politically. I mean our government failed us. It fumbled the snap.

If your issue is too many shutdowns and otherwise all is good........... I respectfully disagree.

Football would have been a forgone conclusion if we sucked it up and got the virus under better control. It can be done - see the rest of the world (well most of it). We didn't. Which created alot of hard decision for employers, schools, universities and sports leagues.

I'm sorry, but this post is utter silliness. Using the benefit of hindsight, where, when, and how could we have kept this under control? What exactly should have been done differently?

Rolled out the WHO test instead of trying to create our own and screwing it up (last part is on CDC)
Funded testing sooner
Funded contract tracing so it actually worked - hired and trained people to do it in a timely manner.
Targeted shutdowns as outbreaks spike
Mark wearing adopted sooner

Come on Crazy this is what the rest of the world did - how is it silly?

Definitely not jealous, lol. Trying to decide what may or may not offend someone has to be impossible. I still think adults have the ability to both measure their comments out of respect for others and also not whine when they hear something they don't like. Anybody and everybody has the option to not be pissed off about something someone else says.
And so, that would absolutely go both ways. Which of course it doesn't nor should it.

It's called good manners and common courtesy.

Short of shutting down inter-state travel, which is unconstitutional, nothing would have made a difference once it got here. Masks would have slowed it down more but the end result would be the same. Funding contact tracing? What exactly does that mean?

Not in the context of his other posts, as I'm certain he grasps the distinction b/w a private msg forum vs. a publication censored by a gov'tal entity
Your response referenced "reasonable minds", which was what I was referring to. To me, being reasonable means taking emotion out of the equation. That makes it really easy to disagree and be challenged without being offended. Make your case, be open to the opposing argument, and learn from it even if someone insults you or your opinion. Don't avoid it.

I think it might behoove some of you to familiarize yourself with the "ignore user" feature. It's very easy to utilize.

Average age of people dying with coronavirus is between 75 and 80 years, and over 90% of them have at least one and often two co-morbidities. People in Hospice care (people in the last stages of dying) are being counted as COVID-19 deaths if they showed symptoms or have confirmed testing with COVID-19.

Why didn't we engage in a massive program to protect those in nursing homes, the elderly on kidney dialysis, cancer patients, COPD patients, pneumonia patients etc.? Each state's and each city's health officials are responsible if they didn't protect these populations. Instead they blamed the young and healthy for living their lives. This is an alternate reality. The data is proof. Why some people won't accept the facts is amazing to me.

I wasn't making my post in a vacuum, opining on what does or does not constitute a reasonable mind. I was replying to a specific board member.

Sounds great in theory. In practice, boards turn into a dumpster fire fast. I've seen it on a couple of other Husker boards and I saw it on the board for people with spinal issues.

If we can't treat each other with respect and civility (without insults) then the place will turn into a sh*tstorm very fast. That's why the Mods/Admin set boundaries and do their level best to inforce them. I'm sure they've learned from other message boards as well.

Do you feel like the people on this board are not capable of discussing controversial topics outside of football without getting offended and leaving?

LOL, look at how many people have left recently because of all the C-19 discussions and back and forth.

As I said before, I've seen it happen on other nebraska football boards. I see no reason that BHF would be different. Obviously the Admins/Mods agree since they have firm policies in place to try and prevent that very thing from happening.

EDIT:

Most posters on here treat everyone with respect and choose to follow the BHF rules but there are multiple posters who seem to delight in seeing how often they can cross the line and "get by with it". It drags the board down and is tiresome to say the least. Then when personal insults are bandied about, well WTF would anyone even want to post or read. It's not an atmosphere conducive to anything positive. I'm sure that's why the rules are in place. Frankly they shouldn't have to be putting out warnings every other day or whatever it is.

I honestly have no idea how many people have left because we really haven't had any football to discuss. I'm fine with the board policies and understand the tightrope they are having to walk here. I just don't understand why someone would be so offended that they leave. If anything, I would think that a lack of traffic would drive someone away more.

I know three people who's deaths were attributed to the virus. One was a friend of mine's dad who was in his 90s and living in an assisted care facility. He was very frail and only had about 20% of his heart functioning. Doctors told his son a couple months before he before he died that one day he would not wake up from sleep. That is exactly what happened. He had no symptoms and was receiving no treatment but it was termed a Coronavirus fatality. The second was a guy who was 100 lbs overweight, diabetic and a two pack a day smoker. He got sick and had the symptoms. However, he was tested three times and all three came back negative. He became really ill and his wife rushed him to ER where they diagnosed him and put him on a ventilator. He died three days later. The third was a man who was in his 30s who had too many beers and crashed his motorcycle at high speed into a car. This was also attributed to coronavirus.

The fact is that hospitals get an extra 20% on bills that are coded at coronavirus related. It is no mystery why the numbers are inflated.

I don't think many have left because of the the Covid-19 discussions. I think the posters whose names we are familiar with aren't here because of lack of football. They will be back when there is a lot of football to discuss.

My cousin is an avid K-State and Missouri fan. Although not a member, he stops by here all the time when there's football being discussed. He's not so much interested in the Covid business. When football starts, we will be one big happy family again (arguing why this or that player should be in the game, Harbaugh's a jerk, etc.).

I would very much like to be discussing Husker football instead of a disease that, so far, we don't really know that much about. But the BigTen has ruined football season for me and millions of other fans. A hex upon their house.
