COVID-19 in Central Nebraska

Honestly, all of these "experts" have no clue in hell as to what is going to happen.

I'm a little pithy about this today. We now have 129 in Hall County and 2 70 year olds (male and female) died in a nursing home in GI today (hospital actually). They were both residents in one of the two nursing homes in GI that had workers test positive for COVID-19

Just curious Uenth……...were these two a couple, and if not, were they from the same nursing home? I'm not drawing any conclusions here......just interested.

I honestly don't know. That is all the information that the Health Department has released. We've had two 60's year old women die from COVID-19 as well. Neither of them have had an obit posted. I'll be watching the obits to see if I can obtain any additional information about these two. I wondered as well if they were a couple. It's possible that they are from different nursing homes.

Thanks Uenth. Stay safe, and take care of that hubby of yours.
Thanks redfred! We're trying to take care of each other during this crapfest of a time.

Did another early morning store run. Went to the other store in town this morning because from 7-8 is for us folks over 60. I was pleased to see that out of probably 2 dozen shoppers, all of us but about 3 were wearing masks or bandanas covering the nose/mouth area. I did my same drill as Wednesday. Put on yesterday's clothing. Once we got the groceries unpacked, the plastic bags went out into the trash, clothes and mask into the washer and into the shower with me.

Other than dog walking/bike rides, I'm staying home. Plenty to do around here. Cleaning is up several notches. Still lots of quilting time. I've also made a couple dozen masks for friends and family. I was pretty bummed today as a neighbor called. She works with developmentally disabled adults and they are unable to get any masks. She wanted to know if I could make 5-10 masks. I just used the last of all the interfacing I have in stock and I can't get anymore. I've ordered from Joanns twice and both times they cancel my order due to their inventory being hosed up. I went on eBay and ordered a bolt (20 yards) but probably won't get it until last of April/1st of May. As I explained to my neighbor, the interfacing is what helps the mask form around your face properly, plus its another layer between everyone else's spittle particles that are released into the air and you. So at the moment, I can't make any masks for her. I know a couple of other people making masks so I'm going to call them this weekend and see if I can beg/borrow/steal a couple of yards of interfacing until I get my bolt in.

Obit on the woman. 73 years old, originally from Farwell. Full obit is still to come so I don't know what nursing home she was at. We know that 2 nursing homes in GI had at least one worker test positive and one in Aurora (if I'm remembering correctly).

Workers welcome the move "as long as Boeing can provide a safe workplace" -- that is the key to this whole thing. Read they are going to provide PPE which is good but social distancing is the another key and difficult to do on a production line type job. One of my friends works at Case New Holland. He said for many of their jobs, you have to work closer than 6 feet apart and then there are always the jerks that just have to invade your space, cough or sneeze in your face, etc.

Washington has done a great job at mitigating the spread of COVID-19. Hope this doesn't cause a ramp-up in their state.

Our group in Adams, Buffalo and Hall county has made and delivered over 1500 Face Shields to area Medical facilities and law enforcement with about another 2000 to go. We just were asked by some Dentists in Indiana if we could get them some also. Unfortunately, this is going to be a slow process for the economy to come back online.

I totally agree with the slow process thing.

I love that you are helping keep our providers healthy with the face shields. I"m surprised the Indiana dentists are still practicing. Our dentist voluntarily closed very early on, except for emergency services: broken tooth, fillings that fall out, etc.

Unfortunately, my cloth face masks may not be healthy for people to wear 8-10 hours a shot so I make them and give them to family, friends and a couple of customers that have asked for them. Hoping my replacement interfacing gets here sooner rather than later so that I can make so more masks.

The wuhan virus isn't going to die.
Some social distance because they meet horrible guidelines that put them in high mortality rate from this monster.
Others do not, but only to save our med resources from being overcome.
We've been told, look to next years cases, it isn't going away.

There is no if, we will have to find ways to safely get back to our lives.
Social distancing is saving our med systems so everyone gets full cares, it wont keep you from getting the virus,it isn't going away.
Herd effect is natures way, always has been.

Man can only change this with a vaccine. 18 months from now.

Well I got two great phone calls today. My lawn care guy has a 10 year old who has spent her out of school hours sewing masks. She's an absolute cutie. I called to see if I could get some interfacing from her. She's out but had 5 masks that weren't committed to anyone so they are bring them this afternoon for me to give my friend and neighbor.

I also found some interfacing, designed to make bags with that I am going to sew 1 mask for my neighbor and see how it works. If ok, I'll sew a bunch up for her to take into work.

So already feeling good about this. Then my SIL called. She has a friend whose mother just passed away. Her mother was a sewer and has tons of fabric, threads, etc that SIL's friend is going through. She called my SIL and told her that she had just sewn a couple of masks. My SIL asked her if she had any extra interfacing and miracle of miracles she has tons. She is going to give my SIL a yard to get to me. I can make 6 masks out of that yard so it's all good stuff. Who would thunk about getting so excited about making masks to give away? LOL!

Last Monday -- 68 confirmed cases, yesterday -- 211 cases. All but 14 are in Hall County. Sure glad those boneheads in Doniphan let the birthday party be held in their community center. Some of the guests would stun you. Heard about one gentleman yesterday. He's been in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator since Mar 30th (2 weeks after the party was held). I won't post his name because it's second hand information and more importantly his family deserves privacy.

I just think it's a good thing it was only one. Reading around, this kind of thing is still currently happening.
If the vast majority of us haven't been at least two weeks from this kind of thing, history will repeat.

Yur only safe if yur not out.

Pretty much.

I hit both grocery stores this morning so I shouldn't have to go out the rest of the week. As usual, clothes from the day before and don mask before entering the store. Come home, unpack groceries immediately, take plastic grocery store bags out to the garbage topper, clothes immediately go into washer and I shower and wash hair. Have to get food and this is the most responsible routine I've come up with yet.

Had to go to the second grocery store in search of bathroom cleaner. At least I found it at the second store so I'm good to go for a couple of weeks now. It just never fails to amaze me what you can't find one week will be in abundance the next week and something else will be unavailable. I look for meats to start being "hot" items due to the pork processing plant closure as well as one JBS Swift closing (Pennslyvania, I believe) and a positive COVID-19 case at a chicken processing plant (forget the location).

It appears contact spread is not common at all from surfaces, no cases run back to getting it at the grocery store.
Mostly from the air.
Just saying this to give you more peace of mind, but certainly continue to be thorough, other than chem showers, great routine.
