COVID-19 in Central Nebraska

It's also higher all over China.
It's also higher here in the USofA as people who should be tested were not. People died early on and they (in most places are not counted as COVID-19). NY has revised their totals to more accurately reflect what happened. Hope others follow suit. Seems to me that if my doc looks at me and says I fit the symptomology of COVID-19 but is unable to get a test, I should be counted as a COVID-19 patient. Not the case as of yet.

I'd be thrilled to find out I had COVID-19 and didn't know it.

This is NOT good news in any way shape or form. We are just beginning to find out the myriad effects COVID-19 is having on otherwise healthy people, other than the obvious of mortality.

I get it that you're Johnny Sunshine Pumper and you desperately want your "guy" to shine and for Football to happen in the fall but there is NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING good about anyone having COVID-19. Get a grip, NWH.

We had 3 more deaths in CNHD yesterday. I'm appalled at your comment. Totally and completely appalled.
There's going to be more and more of these studies every day.
I'm not sure why you're appalled that people are finding out the virus caused them no harm, to the point they never knew it was in them at all.
That's just fewer people that can infect others as well.
It's appearing that if there's 1000 people we know has the virus, it's likely 25000 to 85000 actually have had it, those who don't even know.
Tests will be coming to you, I hope you take it, if you've already had the virus, it will give you peace of mind.

LOL NWH. Testing me at this point in time would be a total waste of a test. For testing to work correctly, 100% of the population must be tested at approximately the same time. I am about 99.999999% sure that I would test negative for COVID-19. Tomorrow I could be infected walking the dogs or bike riding with hubby. Very few people wear masks out and around the neighborhood.

I'm sure you are quite aware of why your remark struck me as so appalling. No one finding out they have or had COVID-19 is "Good news" as you posted. It is not good news.

I get it -- you want the seriousness of it to fade so that it can be no worse than a typical flu season. Not happening. The latest, in addition to lung damage, is that docs are finding that it wreks havoc with circulation systems. They are finding something called "hook embollisms" that attach to a chamber in the heart. These are being found in young people (under 30), previously healthy, with no prior heart issues. Oh, and then there is the 5 year old daughter of 2 first responders in Michigan who died from COVID-19 yesterday. Her father was tested ' inconclusive ' and mother wasn't deemed test worthy so one or both of them infected their child. Wonderful.

Back in our little neck of the woods. 3 more COVID-19 deaths reported by CNHD today. We increased our COVID-19 positive test total by another 61 today. Finally a very telling statistic released. 39% of our reported cases are from JBS Swift employees. WHO HOOOO!!! I don't find it to be a racial issue but rather than JBS Swift failing to provide their employees with PPE and failing to create a safer work emvironment. Now that the cattle are out of the barn door, they are providing PPE and installing plastic dividers, whenever possible, between employees and in break areas. However, they are still responbile for approximately 239 cases. Then some of those 239 have contributed to community spread by sneezing in Walmart, Super Saver, Mickey D's, etc. Thanks Swift!!! A stellar job indeed!

No
Anyone can be infected and not know it, like the 400,000 people in Los Angeles county.
I guess you don't understand that 25 to 85 times the known number of infected people who didn't know they had the virus but have means.
I'll let others know.

I would appreciate you stop assuming my intentions as well.
You obviously have no idea what antibodies are, how they're being tested for, what it means when they're found.
In other words, you haven't understood one link, or one comment on this, so do not offer your opinion of my intentions

If we only look at those who are getting symptoms and the physical results of that, and not taking into consideration of the 25-85 of people who have gotten the virus, yet showed no signs whatsoever, we are getting only the worst of whats happening.

We have yet to hear the stories of the millions of people who never had a symptom, yet were surprised they had had it.

At best case 85 people not having one symptom to every one who does, it is a skewed point of view, even as serious as it is, there's people out there that simply don't know this.

Ah, the gloves are off, no more Mr. Nice Guy. WTF ever.

Umm, I understand much, much more than you could ever possibly understand. Sadly, that Includes your intentions.

When a person tests positive for antibodies, they have had the virus.
Finding 85 people with antibodies to every one who not only have antibodies, but had symptoms as well, ignoring the other 85
exist is foolish.
So, saying their are 400,000 people in LA county who are immune is good news.
Saying for every sick person with this flu, there are likely 25 to 85 people who have already gotten it, and it could be any of us is good news.
There simply is no other way to understand it.

The harm caused by only looking at the one with symptoms while ignoring those 85 others will skew your point of view.

I am happy for those 400,000 in LA county, just as I am for every one person who gets symptoms, are sick, then rid themselves of the virus like those others but at 85-1

At the time of the tests in santa clara county, there were 1000 people known to have the virus.
Santa clara county has 112,000 people in it.

When they ran the serology tests, they found a rate of 55 to 85 times the number of people with antibodies, meaning its possible over half that county has already been infected, the vast majority never got sick, and it may have reached herd effect already.

What Can Antibody Testing Really Tell Us About COVID?
Knowing how many people were actually exposed and developed antibodies will help officials understand how dangerous it truly is, says Michael Mina, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. While millions of people worldwide have been diagnosed with COVID-19, many more have probably had it and were unable to get tested or didn’t even notice the infection.

“It really changes our view of many, many things: First and foremost, how many people have been infected and [how many] remain susceptible to this infection,” he says. “But it also changes our view on the actual biology and pathogenicity of this virus. It will determine and change how we’re looking at this virus.”
Antibody tests will also be essential for getting us out of our houses and back to work, and for easing the fear that has paralyzed the country, says Marc Lipsitch, PhD, also an infectious disease epidemiologist at Harvard.

If those numbers are right, no clue if NY used the fda approved antibody test, but the delayed timing looks like it may have, as that test is lab run only. It would take longer just because of that.

But anyhow, I roughly crunched some numbers, rounding them.
NY state has 20 million people,NYC has 8 million,or 40% of the states population lives in the highest density of people per mile in the states, where shared public transport is the common and most used by far mode of transport.

Anyhow, the entire state had 13% people known to have antibodies, which is 2,700,000 people.

We know nyc has 40% ( remember this is rough numbers, but close), so 40% of 2.7 million is 1.3 plus million people,or 20 odd percent,in their findings, leaving 1.4 million out state having antibodies,or, 1.4 million of 12 million. That leaves roughly 9% of out state new yorkers having antibodies.

Almost three times in nyc vs ny state.
The density factor, and lifestyle, public transport etc increased the virus infection almost three fold.

Unfortunately, nyc is unique, and you can't roughly translate this vs say Omaha vs York for example.
But while density played a huge part in nyc, we need to get several of these studies to hopefully aplly them to our towns and cities to get a clearer situation of where we're at.

Having the virus tests are good to have, but is like chasing our tails, it doesn't help the greater whole, and the individual who tests positive can then stop having any kind of contact.

But, our tests only detect day two or three, where typically no symptoms occur, until day seven, so for four days we are infecting people unless caught day two or three into infection.

After ten days, our tests no longer work, unless you get better testing, as your antibodies ramp up and kill the virus in places where we usually test on our bodies, and nuceic testing with blood can be used, but after ten days, you're well into your symptoms, and a test becomes a surety test than a practical one.

Also, in order for tracing to work, they have to trace back everyone who had contact with a person, then wait two or more days to test them.

This virus is a $&&?',k !!

Absolutely there are more in the U.S. who have it but don't know they do. What I was saying about China is they have flat out lied about how many had it and died from it. A country with 1.4 billion and they had fewer deaths than the U.S.? Not buying it.

Whole heartedly agree with your post.

Lost the internet for most of the day yesterday and spotty today. See by NWH's post, I didn't miss much.

On our front, 700 positive cases in CNHD with 664 in Hall County, 7 in Merrick and 29 in Hamilton counties. Another gentleman from Hall County passed away yesterday which brings our death total to 19.

There's a mail carrier I chat with from time to time. Not our carrier but I see her when I'm walking the dogs or when Hub and I are on the bikes. Last time I saw her was the last of March. She told me then that she and her hub were both having tummy issues, a bit of diarrhea and cramping. I asked her if she could have COVID-19 and quickly backed away from her. She said that she didn't think so. Saw her yesterday for the first time and she told me that both she and her husband had had the virus but are both thankfully okay. I wasn't at all surprised she had it once she told me that her husband is a meat inspector for JBS Swift. I'm just relieved that she and her hub are both ok. She's in her 40's but she told me that he's 61 so it's a bit more problematic for him.
