3-9 Let that sink in.

I witnessed one blanket party while I was in the military. It was for a young man who had a problem obtaining property that did not belong to him. He was pretty good at it because by the time he was found out, he had a lot of people wanting a piece of him. The following day he was transferred to another company. A little worse for the wear but hopefully a lot smarter.
When I was stationed Permanent Party at Ft Lee, we discussed it one day after we tired of playing cards. I would say that 75% of my platoon had either witnessed or participated in a blanket party. Interestingly, no one admitted to being the recipient of a blanket party. :D

In the early 90's when I worked as a Civilian Employee at Ft Leavenworth, I asked a couple of Active Duty Military about blanket parties. Neither one of them even admitted to knowing what a blanket party was much less participating in or witnessing one. I think Vietnam and early post Vietnam, it was still very much a part of the Military. Everything tends to evolve over time. My feeling is that the Military evolved and blanket parties are no longer encouraged or acceptable behavior.

A Few Good Men, finished off blanket parties. Can you handle the truth?

Someone is always ruining all the fun.

Years of disappointment rooting for the Detroit Tigers actually prepared me the past few seasons, but nothing really readies you for losing nine games by single digits -- a first in college football since The Great Depression. No one could have imagined the way this season has unfolded. If you wrote a script like this, people would say it's too far fetched and reject it.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, as I was in Basic in '77. But...these were some of the mindsets of DS duty. For example:

Back then there was a mid cycle "break" of a weekend off downtown if you chose....to "destress". The one stipulation...be back at 1800 Sunday. Well, 4th platoon embarrassed their DS by having 8 guys not make it back.

So, what does he do?...he takes his 4 bruising recruit squad leaders downtown, find them, and then proceeds to beat the living crap out of them.

Final disposition...8 counts of attempted murder, and whatever punitive perks that went along with it.

That stuff was dead and gone "officially" when I was a DS from 89-92. There were way more constructive ways to get recruits attention, and fun could be had while doing it.

Same at Nebraska...my suggestion...bring back stuff like running stadium stairs.

I know a lot would not want this to happen, but this team from this day forward needs to be toughened up. Success through attrition if necessary. Stop recruiting snowflake-weak minded kids.

The Jimmy's and Joe's are an absolute, but we need the toughest of the toughest on Saturdays lining up for us, even if it means a walkon, and risk losing the 4/5* recruit to transfer in the process.
Are they not running stadiums? Who knows. Havent been to a practice so I dont know. I bet they have some form of extra running

If I were SF and his assistants, I would use the 9 game losses by 1 score as a recruiting tool to show just how close we were to greatness; And that the recruited kids could be the one ingredient to get us over that hump.

Ya know I had that same knockoff in the back of my head. You can't erase so turn it into a positive. (and truth be told it is positive because as coach says, we are so close)
