2026 Season Previews, Predictions & Watch Lists

I'd like to publicly thank Husker99 for her keen powers of observation.

Recently in another thread, I noted that she mentioned a specific post number. That's when I learned---after 8+ years hanging out here---that every thread post has a number!!!

If you nothing else, at least you're observant.

I'm convinced our Blackshirt defense is going to surprise fans with how much stronger our run defense will be with an improved DL and linebackers.

I'm also convinced our offense is going to be more explosive. Regarding special teams, we've got a great FG kicker (Cunanan) and I think our punting will be improved with Archie's second year. We've also got a returning punt/kick-off returner (Barney) so it's hard for me to believe we'll see a drop off on that front.

In my mind, the big unknown is Colandrea. Like Tommy and Adrian before him, we know Anthony can make big plays. But those guys also made critical mistakes at the worst possible times. Nobody is perfect but if AC can maximize his big plays while reducing his turnovers, we could surprise some folks this season.

Snaps, holding the ball on the XP and FG, kick coverage and kick return. We lost the KOR to Michigan St. Based on what I saw from Barney in the Bowl game, we need better from the KO return man.

Slipping down the rankings a bit on special teams wouldn't surprise. We can't drop 50 places and it not cost games.

Kicking should be OK if we can block it (NO blocked punts or FGs would be the goal). Coverage is what worries me the most - because bad coaching shows up there - and we are gambling on our special team coaching duo. We should trend up on O and D.....O has to figure out RB rotation but otherwise I think we'll improve.

Want to know how apathetic I am for Husker football? One national pundit compared us to a car crash and another called us mid. Even last year I would have used social media to reach out to those two to give them the literal middle finger. This year?
