2026 Season Previews, Predictions & Watch Lists

News flash, PD: the kid is 17. :) ;)
I know he is. So I won't consider him as a viable option as an on field QB for us for at least 3-4 years while he matures? You can't have it both ways. You want the NIL big bucks? You want to be a leader? You better be mature beyond your years.
Listen, I know he's seventeen. Somebody, (parents? coaches?) has to be the adult in this kid's life. He's a special athlete. That's it. Somebody should be mentoring him and stop him when he goes off the rails.
You can't have it both ways. Do you think TJ Lateef is conceding games before the season? How will next year's teammates look at him when they see him after playing Indiana this year? Especially when/if we win.

6 wins should be very doable for this team unless Special Teams are a complete disaster. Or we get devastated by the injury bug.

7 wins is probably what I expect is most likely.

8 or more wins.....we final show progress beyond what Rhule's teams have shown so far. Won't be easy to get 8 given the schedule. Is is possible - yes. Most of the roster is in a better spot vs. last year and I like the Oline and DC coaching changes. But close games require Special Teams to be very good. Not sure we'll pull that off. Hate to keep harping on it but if we defecate the sleeping chamber a few times in close losses due to a ST screw up......the finger gets pointed at one guy. Rhule.

My feelings on the upcoming season today...
We have approximately average B1G offense and defense line play. We are above average in the skill positions. IF our coaches can coach on gameday, we should be a slightly above average B1G team. That's 8-4.
Tomorrow's thoughts may be different. Today I'm sippin the koolaid.

Agree on D line - but I think our O line can be a little above B1G average with the right coaching. Also agree on skill positions but RB does have to prove it against better defenses.

We are going into fall camp with a returning Center who is a preseason All American candidate, an OT who could be taken in the top two rounds of the NFL draft, AND three stud OL transfers. (If we were talking DL men or skill position pick-ups, fans would be going bonkers about them but OL men never get their due.) I've seen national pundit-types opine that Oregon and Nebraska have the best OLs in an18-team conference known for it's strong line play.

Granted, the proof is in the pudding and we've been disappointed with our OL play more than a few times lately. But when Rhule hired Geep and Lonney and spent our NIL money on OL men, that's telling me we're committing to being able to Pound Da Rock, Baby!!!

I think a realistic range is 5 to 7 wins, so I'll take the middle number and say 6-6.

That's where I'm at. I think 6-6 is about where this team will end up. I see 4 nearly certain losses to Indiana, Oregon, Ohio State, and Iowa.

Outside of our OOC, the rest of our conference games are basically 50/50 toss-up that could go either way.

I will say though that Michigan State in East Lansing is going to be more difficult than people think. Pat Fitzgerald coached teams are always well coached and play hard.

Post #47, the beatinthebookie post. I like his optimism and I genuinely hope he's right.

I'd like to publicly thank Husker99 for her keen powers of observation.

Recently in another thread, I noted that she mentioned a specific post number. That's when I learned---after 8+ years hanging out here---that every thread post has a number!!!
