Mike'L getting real about Frost on twitter

I have no idea whose this dude is but it looks like he should be important, if not to others to himself. I heard he likes XXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX. This crap comes out of the woodworks and like a XXXXXXX never ignores the microphone.
He was an anchor on KETV, and has been a radio host in Omaha for decades, including cohosting with Damon Benning who will corroborate Severe's statements.

I heard from some people in and around the area there was a gambling issue as well. Like you said, this stuff doesn’t stay silent…it will all drop at some point. If true, it sounds as if Scott needs to focus on himself for a while. Could be a Steve Sarkesian similar situation.

He must have not only given points, but bet against NU also.

This makes me mad as hell. There should have been an intervention a long time ago. Where were his friends? Family? Teammates?

You mean the teammates that tried to send him packing on a pine rail when he came back? :)

Sometimes you have to take a teammate by the collar shove him into a locker and get in his face to wake him up. The program that I hear from former players is too important to allow one person to mess it up.
Sometimes you have to intervene when someone you love is out of control.
Any workplace environment has to have standards in place to hold people accountable.
If some of these things are true then it was a system failure as much as a Frost failure.

<sigh> It's not a flippin football prgm anymore.

It's a soap opera.

Seems like it's gonna be a long, grim season or two. Again.

Oh, well. Scarlet and Cream, all the way.

gbr

Yup, and we don't even need to wait until next season to find out "Who shot J.R.?"

It was a hands off approach when Scott Frost got to Nebraska....from everyone. It was almost as if any critique was met with daggers. And at some point, leaders shouldn't be coddled. I think when Moos retired/was forced out/left then things that were glossed over by choice or by chance came to light. I think upper non AD administration, some in the AD, some outside of the AD had the attitude of if not Frost, then no one and he was granted latitude that almost any other coach would not have gotten - fair or otherwise. When Trev Alberts came in, he saw some things happen that first season he was AD that many people saw - fans, media, etc that he could not let slide. So change was made. And again, it seems that the new coaches that came on board saw many of the same things. Alberts and the AD staff maybe should have pulled the trigger sooner if there were red flags about things. Maybe he wanted to let Scott Frost have another shot after changes were made. But, it appeared on the field that the off the field changes did not occur. Now whether Frost was in 100% with the changes, who knows. But a part of me believes Scott Frost was asked to make changes with his approach and he wasn't 100% aboard on it. On field failure occurred and we are where we are. Maybe it was something simple as the players and coaches just didn't respond to Scott Frost. I don't know.
He's gone and I'm hoping MJ goes undefeated.
GO BIG RED!!!

All of these "explanations" about why Frost failed at Nebraska are just noise. And I'm not saying they are not true, but at Nebraska (and maybe any other school), when a head coach is fired it JUST HAS TO BE that he was a bad person, arrogant, rude and/or undisciplined, etc. For all we know, someone has video of Frost beating puppies. For the past 20 plus years the program has been floundering to one extent or the other. Some of it falls on the coaches, some on the caliber of players, much on the University administration, and or AD's. and probably most of it falls on changes in the nature of college football.

I haven't seen him comment here for awhile (maybe I've just missed it) but someone whose opinion I tend to trust on these matters is Doc Holliday. If I missed his perspective on the Frost era failure at Nebraska, maybe someone could point me to a thread of his comments.

He's had a couple posts in the last couple days.

I just hope the coaches focus on the little things. Doing all things the right way, all the time. I bet that will be the key to turning close losses into wins.

I do not know what was going on in Lincoln, but every coach we played sure as hell did. So did Zatacka and Carricker because they diagnosed two serious problems which were ruining the defensive effort....duh anyone with a living brain seemed to do that too but our team. Both were communications between the players on specific offensive plays, lets hope its simple to fix, it may not be because of the training they got in summer camp. Lets hope we do not get into a shootout with OU because we will lose that effort, because of our D unless it is fixed.

Tx never heard of him but if he knew this was going on he should have said so long ago.

Damon Benning went into detail on yesterday's show in regards to players (current & former), media, etc knowing what has gone on behind the scenes (with Frost and prior coaches) and keeping it under wraps. It is a fine line to walk. Worth a listen, it picks up around the 1:37:45 mark and goes for a couple of segments.

Thanks ATX. That was an interesting listen.

To briefly summarize:

Fans:
Why is all this crap about Frost coming out NOW? If it was supposedly 'out there' all along, why wasn't the Nebraska media talking about it? Those guys are a bunch of cowards.

Damon Benning:
To paraphrase the famous Jack Nicholson line from 'A Few Good Men:' "You fans couldn't of handled the truth!!!"

True - also torching Big Red in print is a good way to lose your media access - a giant NO NO for media platforms in Big Red country.

Certainly the media should not purvey rumor. The media should however report facts, especially those facts that have direct effect on the program.

Knowing omission is a lie, I disagree with Damon. We don't need his protection.
I completely understand where you're coming from, Mike. But what Damon said in response to your argument is that real reporting (you know, that journalism stuff) for the college game is considerably different than it is in the NFL. A reporter can report all kinds of non-football things about coaches, the team owner, staff or players in the pro game long as he or she has verifiable evidence. But the same thing regarding 'the home team' would get a college football reporter crucified, tarred, and feathered.

Heck, our fan base goes bonkers when there's a nationally-reported story about one of our players' legal problems. Can you imagine if a local writer -- armed with documented evidence -- 'breaks a news story' that disparages our head coach? If you honestly believe that local journalist would be applauded for his honesty, integrity, and professionalism you have more faith in our fanbase than I do.

The the problem with 90% of the media today…They don’t report the truth just their narrative. I honestly find it hard to believe that our fan base would have a hard time hearing truth and facts about the HC which were directly affecting his job performance and the teams on field performance.
